Chapter 27
We were just chilling and talking when Dave came in and asked us all if we were going to watch the other boys do their soundcheck. We all nodded, and began following him to the stage again. Of course, Ashton didn’t, so I turned around because I was going to find out what is going on with him. He had finally moved onto a couch that was isolated in the room, so I walked over to the couch and sat down next to him. He didn’t look at me or anything, just kept his eyes on the floor.
“Ashton,” I said putting my hand on his leg. “what’s wrong?”
He ignored me and didn’t say anything. I let out a sigh and sat back on the couch. We’re gonna be here for a while, I thought. We sat in a really awkward silence when I felt his eyes turn to me. I turned my head to the left and he was, in fact looking at me.
“Ashton, tell me what’s wrong.” I said, moving closer to him and grabbing his hand, intertwining our fingers together. Luckily, he accepted that gesture but still kept quiet.
“Ash, please talk to me.” I begged. He kept his eyes on me. They held no emotion, so I couldn’t figure anything out.
He took a breath in through his nose and let it out through his mouth. “It’s my sister.” He finally said.
My heart dropped. What happened to his little sister?
“What happened to her, Ash?” I asked, trying to keep myself from freaking out.
“She- she got-” he started, but didn’t finish.
“She got what?” I pushed.
“She got…a boyfriend.” He finished, letting another breath out.
I looked at him blankly. Really? That’s why he was being so distant all of a sudden, because Lauren has a boyfriend? I thought to myself.
“Ashton, it isn’t that big of a deal.” I explained.
He looked at me like I was crazy. “She’s only thirteen! That’s too young to have a boyfriend! And my mum’s okay with it! She said they’re cute together!” He slightly shouted, getting a little over dramatic.
“Ashton, it really isn’t that big of a deal. I had a boyfriend when I was eleven. It wasn’t anything serious. We hugged and kissed each other on the cheek. We shared lunches, drank juice together and played together on the playground sometimes. It really wasn’t a big deal. Don’t make it one, she’s young, it isn’t like she’s going to be with him forever. I can promise that she won’t. I’m sure her friends are all getting ‘boyfriends’ and she didn’t want to feel left out. They like each other, but it won’t go any further than that. So relax, babe.” I said, playing with his fingers that were holding on to mine.
He didn’t reply, just shook his head as if he didn’t agree.
“Look, we’ll make a deal. If she stays with him longer than four months, I’ll do or give you anything you want.” I suggested.
