Chapter 9

Finally, we arrived at the small cafe Ashton was taking me to. As if on cue, my stomach started yelling at me to fill it. I hoped he didn’t hear it.

“Someone’s hungry.” He commented.

Shit.

“Yeah, well if we would’ve taken a taxi or something, we would’ve been here faster.” I joked back. He didn’t answer back, just smiled and asked for a table for two towards the back. The hostess grabbed two menu’s and brought us to the far back of the establishment. She placed our menu’s on the table with a smile, and left. Ashton pulled my chair out for me and let me sit down. What a gentleman. He then sat himself down, picking up his menu also.

“So what are you getting?” I asked.

“Well, the eggs and french toast look amazing, but so does the eggs Benedict. What are you going to get, babe?” He asked me back.

I searched through the menu to see if anything caught my eye.

“The eggs Benedict does look amazing. I think I’ll get that, actually.” I replied.

As soon as we were done figuring out what we wanted, a waiter came over to our table.

“Welcome. How are you both doing today?” He asked, cheerfully.

“We’re both good, thank you.” Ashton replied for both of us. I looked up at the waiter and smiled. He seemed about our age, he was good looking, but nothing compared to Ashton. He kept smiling at me and staring. Maybe he was just being really nice, I don’t know. But whatever this guy was doing, I could tell Ashton didn’t like it.

“What would you like to drink?” He asked me first.

“Just an orange juice, thank you.” I replied. He smiled at me again.

“And you sir?” He asked Ashton.

“Same as my girlfriend, thanks.” He said, sounding angry. The waiter just looked at him, shrugged his shoulders and walked away to put our order in. I looked at Ash and he was staring at the waiter. I put my hand over his and his eyes immediately turned to look into mine.

“Ash, what’s wrong?” I asked.

“That waiter, he keeps looking at you. It’s beginning to really get on my damn nerves.” He answered, looking behind me again.

“Ashton, I don’t think that’s it. He’s just being nice. Plus, you just angrily told him that I’m your girlfriend, I think he gets it. Just relax. This is supposed to be nice, remember? We won’t be doing this too often with my brother around all the time. So just enjoy it.”

He looked at me and then closed his eyes, taking a deep breath in. “You’re right.” He finally said.
