The trip to Lanling was uneventful. Wei Wuxian and Wei Xinyi landed at Koi Tower, the manor of the Lanling Jin Sect. They showed their invitations and were gratuitously led to a pavilion. On their way, Wei Wuxian curiously glanced at everything. The Jin Sect was in a single word opulent. The vibrant golden coloured buildings and the proud peony flowers swaying with the gentle breeze dignified it's wealthy beauty. Wei Xinyi was particularly sceptical of this arc in the story.

A number of very important events was to take place during this one short week. The pavilion they were led into was the Red Lotus Pavilion and had four different buildings in close vicinity. Though the Cultivation Alliance Conference was a very important event the people invited were only the eligible participants of all Sects. No extra entourage, servants of anyone else except perhaps the Sect Leader were allowed. This year almost all the Young Masters of prominent Sects were of age to participate. So the Jin Sect left no stone unturned to ensure a very captivating hosting.

Wei Wuxian was practically bouncing on his feet with excitement as he chattered away while Wei Xinyi only hummed. They settled in their building which had 5 rooms.

Seriously!?

They were only two people.

They could have adjusted some Sect disciples together to save the servants time.

Typical Jin Sect. Wei Xinyi snorted and only had settled down in her room when Wei Wuxian came in hopping wanting to see around. Wei Xinyi definitely didn't allow him to wonder out alone in the night.

"Oi! A-Xin, my prettiest Meimei! Please let's go out," he pouted as if wronged.

"Ge! The competition rules forbids us from meeting other disciples before the opening ceremony tomorrow." Wei Xinyi very patiently explained and Wei Wuxian relented maybe he was tired.

DAY 1

Early next morning both of them gathered in the grounds where the first round was supposed to take place. She had to give it to the author, this setting was really excellent for all the Main Characters to actually meet up. As far as she remembered, the real Wei Xinyi was placed 7th in the rank and she was the only female cultivator as well.

However, Wei Xinyi wasn't sure of the plotline now. For example the war happened earlier than in the book, she and her brother never separated etc. During her random researches she had found a book written by the only Female Sect Leader of Lan Sect, Lan Yi, who explained why only a few female Cultivators managed to cultivate as the same level as some male Cultivators. The female body produced Yin energy contrary to the Yang energy produced by Males. Not only was the Yin energy submissive in nature but male Cultivators had more brute strength compared to them. So it was pretty difficult for them.

Wei Xinyi warily watched Jin Guangshan giving the welcome speech with a fake smile on his face.  On the high dias sat Jin Sect leader Jin Guangshan and his wife Madam Jin, Tang Yueyong. Next to them naturally sat her best friend Madam Jiang though she would rather be called Madam Yu, Yu Ziyuan and Sect Leader Jiang, Jiang Fengmian. To the right of the Jin Sect sat Qingheng-Jun Lan Qingming , Sect Leader Lan and Lan Qiren, his younger brother. Next to them Nie Mingjue, the youngest Sect Leader of Qinghe Nie sat menacingly followed by Sect Leader Wen, Wen Heng.

Wei Xinyi carefully remembered the new faces of Qingheng-Jun and Wen Heng as she was all too acquainted with others. This was her first time watching the Elder Cast of Chen Qing Ling so close. She has yet to meet the actual cast. Looking around there were over 500 young souls, vibrating with youthful vigour all around. There were a handful of female Cultivators as well.

After the speech was a very simple elimination round. Archery competition. Only 50 best archers would further in the competition. The second round would start the same day and continue till next. Of course Sword fighting was the second round. And only 10 worthy Cultivators would make it to the list of Best Cultivators. The third day was an official conference day where the Sects discussed political issues. All Sect leaders were to be in attendance to discuss the Annual plans.

Sometimes she definitely thought these elements were of the modern world. The author had given it a unique twist.

The fourth day was The Annual Night Hunt. This was a casual event for the participating disciples to show their strength and talent. Naturally this one also had winners. The fifth day was for everyone to take a rest and maybe explore Lanling as they pleased. The 6th day was the New Moon Day and the celebration banquet. Naturally they returned home the next day.

The archery event was uneventful for her. She's had worse training with that brat and creative monster of her brother. The ground was large and many targets were setup. She definitely didn't draw her sword when she saw the man responsible for calculating the points do a double take at her.

Yeah, she's a woman. Do you need to stare like that? Humph.

It was around noon when the Sword Fighting began. She fought three disciples, one from Baling Ouyang Sect, one from Laoling Qin Sect and one from Tingshan He Sect and promptly found herself in the Top 20.

Seriously, what was up with these looks. She has her face covered, doesn't she? What exactly are they ogling at?

Frustrated, she left to find Wei Wuxian who was complimenting some prety maidens who were blushing and giggling. It pained her to see the scene and she felt real pity for Lan Wangji before dragging off her brother.

DAY 2

Today even Wei Xinyi had a hard time toning down her excitement level. For secrecy purposes and to ensure fairness everyone was dressed in plain battle clothes, nothing fancy and certainly not their Sect colours. Today was the day when Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji met.

Yes,their first sword fight!!!!!!.......

The stage designed was a closed arena. There was some basic rules. They were all dressed in  similar clothes with a cloth concealing their identities. They had been provided with numbers and would be randomly paired of course. Wei Xinyi rolled her eyes at the arrangement. Really, what was the foolish author thinking? Mystery and all, my ass!

The gathered 20 participants stood waiting for their turns. The Sect Leaders casually chatted even betting money on some. Wei Xinyi stood next to a very excited Wei Wuxian who would lean down to whisper into her ears. Such a kid! Wei Xinyi thought fondly, the ghost of a smile on her face.

Soon enough the competitions began. Wei Wuxian went off first and victoriously won earning the praise of the gathered crowd. Beneath the cloth, Wei Xinyi could picture his grin.

Swiftly the first few matches ended and 10 participants remained. Wei Xinyi was 99% sure she knew them all and that they were the main characters of Mo Dao Zu Shi.

They took a break and the final matches began after lunch hour. Everyone expected the competition to end before sunset as there was plenty of time. Well, everyone except Wei Xinyi who had remembered this particular plotline line by line.

Then the first two participants were called out......
