Lan Xichen was reading the Sect missives when Lan Wangji visited him. Lan Xichen smiled at him only to realise something was wrong with him. No one knew how Lan Xichen could read his brother's minute expression so easily. Lan Xichen always thought it was clearly visible what Lan Wangji felt. He just knew when something was different about his Didi.
"Xiongzhang." Lan Wangji sat down as he greeted Lan Xichen.
"Wangji, are your lessons completed for the morning?" Xichen asked putting away his work.
"Mn." He replied before looking away once again.
"Wangji what's wrong? Is it the disciples? Are they troubling you?" Lan Xichen made a guess. Change was Lan Wangji's biggest enemy. He liked to go about his day in an orderly manner as the rules dictated. Now, with so many disciples who broke small rules left and right, must be troubling to his usually rule-abiding brother. And then there was a certain Young Master Wei.
Lan Wangji didn't know what to tell his brother exactly. Should he tell him what Fuqin said?
"....or is it your Zhiji?" Lan Xichen smiled as Lan Wangji's ears turned slightly red.
"Xiongzhang what do you know of Yilling Wei?" Lan Wangji suddenly asked.
Lan Xichen went silent for a moment before telling whatever small details he knew. Yilling Wei was between the border of Yunmeng and Gusu, though it was definitely far away from Cloud Recesses. Truth be told, the most fascinating thing about the Sect was it's barriers. A barrier solely controlled by a certain bloodline was never seen in the cultivation world before. As long as they had a blood heir they wouldn't have to worry about anyone trespassing the Burial Mounds!
Also, though many didn't know, Lan Xichen, thanks to their massive library, knew that hundred of years ago the Burial Mounds was a mountain of the dead, reeking of resentful energy and death. Thousands of corpse were tossed into it and left unmentioned. No living person dared to step there until Wei Lao, the first Sect Leader of Yilling Wei. He was the first Demonic cultivator in history and hopefully the last. It is also recorded that he tamed the resentful energy by his flute and offered his blood to make them obey. Thus, the Burial Mounds accepted his bloodline as the Masters, hence the barriers.
Lan Xichen could tell that Lan Wangji wanted to tell something to him but couldn't. He tactfully changed the topic and they talked some more before a disciple summoned Lan Wangji saying that Shufu had called for him.
Lan Xichen didn't know this Young Master Wei well but he could definitely talk to Young Lady Wei about their brothers. There was nothing personal to it. Nothing. At. All.
He spotted her walking with her brother and Young Master Jiang. Come to think of it, the Weis were the most closest with the Jiangs perhaps! Lan Xichen was surprised when she actually took his hand. He always thought she was very beautiful and strong. What's not to like about her?
"Zewu-Jun? Did you require my assistance?" A soft, feminine voice brought him out of his thoughts.
"I did. Young Lady Wei must be aware that my brother is Zhiji with yours. I wanted to talk about them," Lan Xichen slightly cleared his throat as a pair of silver eyes blinked up at him.
Wei Xinyi frowned.
"Zewu-Jun isn't aware what has happened?" Wei Xinyi questioned instead.
"I.... No? Did something happen?" Lan Xichen was confused.
"Your brother has decided not to acknowledge the bond. Didn't Second Young Master Lan tell you? My brother has been whining since yesterday!" She snorted.
Lan Xichen smiled at this childish, stubborn side of her. So cute.
But then his smile became confused listening to what she said. Did Wangji say that?
