Vixen POV

"Today, I will be going to our headquarters to test the newly invented technology of ours.

I packed two pairs of comfortable clothes and a pair of slippers in my backpack along with my gadgets and other necessary items that I'll need later. I will be staying in the lab to finish the project that I've been working on, together with my human friend, Yna.

The project took us four years to complete. It was a long four years, but it will be worth it, as the machine will help us shorten transportation times.

I drive down the noisy streets of my hometown. After hundreds of years of living in this place, I'm about to leave. Once I finish this project, I will change my identity and place of residence.

Some people here know me as one of the descendants of the Jullian family, which owns the old mansion that the government is going to demolish.

I drive slowly as I pass by my old house where I grew up. The government has already started demolishing it. Half of the mansion has been destroyed, and bulldozers are digging the land.

Ignoring it, I continue driving until I reach my destination.

I park my car in front of our headquarters. The building is large and occupies a lot of land, but there are no trees standing around it, resulting in a hot temperature.

I hurry inside the building and head to my lab, ignoring the lustful looks from the male scientists. I'm aware of how beautiful I am, one of the perks of having vampire blood.

I have long wavy black hair, caramel-colored skin, long thick eyelashes, perfectly shaped eyebrows, a small pointed nose, almond-shaped black eyes, a heart-shaped small face, and pouty lips.

Of course, my appearance is just the beginning. The real deal is my body, with vital statistics of 36-22-36, perky breasts, and a shapely butt. Although I'm short, standing at 5 feet and 4 inches, I'm a real head-turner that men would want in their bed every night.

As for my other talents, let's just say I'm very skilled. I've had my share of experiences, and that's the reason why some girls are upset with me. Well, I can't blame them; I'm as close to perfection as you can get.

Putting my bag on the chair beside me and wearing my lab clothes, I check the machine that we are currently creating. It's almost complete, and the only thing needed is to test it. I'm a thousand percent sure it will work.

The machine is designed to transport things to another place in a split second. It consists of a ball-sized steel sphere with three spikes that emit light and form a rectangular shape.

The machine comes in pairs: one with a green light serving as the entrance and the other with a blue light serving as the exit. Wherever the exit is, even if it's hundreds of miles from its pair, transportation between them will still be possible. I pick up a piece of paper from the desk to use as a sample.

I throw the paper into the green portal machine, and a second later, it appears in the blue portal machine. Ignoring the paper on the ground, I turn around to see my friend, Yna, smiling and clapping her hands.

"Guess the higher-ups will be happy about this," Yna says, smiling while checking the portal machine.

"Of course, we're brilliant. Four years ago, after we finished creating a ring that translates languages and injected it into your mind, we started creating this portal thing. Other male scientists said it was a crazy idea, but look at us now; we finally made it."

"Are you really quitting after this?"

"Yes," I say as I sit down on one of the chairs.

Although Yna and I are friends, I've never told her about my identity. The only thing she knows is that I am the granddaughter of the Jullian family.

"It's nice working with you, and I don't want to let go of you yet. But I wish for you to live your life to the fullest," she says while picking up the ringing phone from the higher-ups.

I chuckle. "I will miss you," I tell her, and she sends a flying kiss my way.

While Yna is still on the phone, I decide to take a nap in our small bed inside the lab. I haven't gotten any proper sleep these past two days because I was busy preparing for my new life. Laying down, I close my eyes, letting the darkness consume me.

I wake up because of the beeping sound from our computer. I quickly check it to see if there are any problems, but when I'm already seated at the computer, the sound vanishes, and everything about the computer seems normal again.

I look around and notice that Yna is not here anymore. That's when I hear the phone ringing.

"Vix, I'm currently at the office with the higher-ups for a meeting. I didn't wake you up because you seemed tired, but can you please download the file that I sent to our computer?" It's Yna.

"Sure thing."

"Thank you. I'm hanging up now because the meeting is still ongoing. I'll tell you later what we talked about."

"Okay, bye." After the call, I download the file that Yna mentioned. It's about the program that will happen tomorrow.

I stand up and stretch my limbs while walking closer to the portal machine. I bend down and pick up the paper that fell from the ground earlier when I tested it. The paper looks perfectly fine and is undamaged. A smile forms on my lips; tomorrow will be the moment of truth.

I'm 201 years old this year, and the Earth has changed rapidly. In the past, trees were everywhere, but now technology is everywhere. Technology has become a part of everyday human life. Now we can't even live without using technology; oxygen is also produced by technology, and even water comes from technology now. There are thousands of scientists around the world who have created new technologies, and I'm one of them.

My first major invention was the ring translator, which can translate any language, be it animal or human. As long as the sender speaks, the recipient will understand it, provided they have been injected with the ring first. Every new language that the recipient encounters requires the ring to be injected into them before they can understand it. Meanwhile, my first minor invention was a tracker flashlight; the light from the flashlight is able to detect life. It's minor because it's not commonly used, and I'm not the one who invented it first.

The portal will be my last invention. In total, I've created three technologies in my six years as a scientist.

Feeling thirsty, I drank a glass of water. I remembered that last week was the last time I drank blood, but the guy's blood wasn't delicious either. Rolling my eyes, I looked up at the clock; it was exactly 12 in the afternoon.

Although human food doesn't have any effect on me compared to blood, it can help in the meantime. I grab a cup of noodles from the top of Yna's desk and smile when my eyes see the sweet picture of her and her husband. They were childhood friends.

Speaking of husbands, we vampires have mates, but I haven't found mine. I haven't really been that interested. I carefully fill a cup with hot water and slowly put it on top of my table.

Leaving the cup for three minutes, I turn on the portal for one last time to check it again with Yna when she returns after the meeting.

Startled by the beeping sound of the computer again, I look back and quickly come to the table but bump my foot into the table's hard stand, causing the cup to fall. The computer continues to make a sound as "ERROR" repeatedly blinks on the screen. My eyes widen. I look back at the portal, and it's pulling things nearby, causing the energy from the portal to increase.

I start running to the door, but it's too late. The energy from the portal drags me in, and I'm pulled into it.

In the blink of an eye, I find myself surrounded by large, healthy trees. Confused by my surroundings, I look around.

"Where the hell am I? Everything seems familiar—the green scenery all looks familiar—but I'm sure I'm not on Earth."

"What is this place?"
