Vixen POV
In the morning, I awoke in Jiaro's arms as he ran swiftly. They informed me that another group of males was approaching, so we needed to move quickly to evade them. As we ran, their footsteps made no noise, and the trees blurred by, the cold wind brushing against me.
The two men moved rapidly, and we soon approached what they called the entrance. The forest grew denser, and wild animals and beasts obstructed our path. Kairo, at the front, swiftly dispatched five beasts. Suddenly, a bizarre creature appeared – it resembled an elephant but had a nose covered in spiky bones, a scorpion-like tail, and wide, wing-like ears. Kairo pounced in his lycan form, his deadly canines sinking into the beast's neck and tearing it from its body.
After vanquishing this elephantine creature, a large bird that I had encountered on my first day on this planet appeared. The bird seized Kairo, lifting him into the sky. I turned to Jiaro, worried and wondering whether we should help him.
"Aren't we going to help him?" I asked.
"No," Jiaro replied confidently. "He can handle it; he just mind-linked me."
It had slipped my mind that they were lycans, and that mind communication was likely part of their abilities. I couldn't help but wonder about the mating rituals of these creatures.
We continued to run and reached a part of the forest where the trees grew bigger and thicker. Eventually, we arrived at three colossal trees, and Jiaro led me up one of them. In the space between the trees, an entrance to a cave was hidden by leaves.
Jiaro lit a piece of wood with fire, a skill that he displayed effortlessly, and I was taken aback by the golden color of the fire, which matched their eyes.
As I gaped at the flames, Jiaro's gaze shifted to me, and he smiled – the first time I had seen him do so since we had met. I couldn't help the way my heart raced, and I leaned into his arm with a smile of my own.
We ventured further into a tunnel-like passage. At one point, I felt a presence behind me, and when I turned, I was met with the intense gaze of Kairo. His silhouette stepped into the light, and he was completely unharmed, showing that he had triumphed over the beasts. Slowly, he reverted to his human form, all the while keeping his eyes locked on me. I smiled at him, then turned to Jiaro, who was also watching me. There was something about them that intrigued me deeply.
"How long until we reach your village?" I inquired.
"We're nearly there," Jiaro assured me, as he pushed aside a large stone blocking our path.
This planet continued to amaze me. Before us, we saw an island, although it was still quite distant. The white sandy shores were surrounded by lush green water, and the air was exceptionally fresh.
Kairo led us to a boat made of bamboo wood. Jiaro guided me into the boat, and Kairo pushed it further into the water.
"That island is our village," Jiaro informed me.
Once we reached the island, the Usuro inhabitants welcomed us. They bowed respectfully as we passed, but the forest soon grew less dense, giving way to colorful flowers and fruits.
Eventually, we halted when we heard voices approaching. My hand became cold and sweaty with nervousness. Looking at Jiaro, I saw that he held my arms. Kairo stopped briefly before moving forward again.
"No one will harm you; after all, you are our female," Kairo assured me.
The voices grew louder as we drew closer. My heart raced, and I looked at Jiaro. He guided me forward, and his arm shielded me protectively. The villagers observed us, showing a mix of curiosity, amazement, and suspicion.
"They're back!" a child exclaimed.
Every Usuro resident bowed with smiles on their faces as we passed by. It became evident that there were very few females, with most of the residents being children. Kairo stopped in front of a large house, where a female hurried to embrace him. This made me raise an eyebrow, as Kairo seemed to brush her aside to reach his father.
Jiaro motioned for me to step forward with him, which I did. "Greetings, Father," Jiaro said, and I followed suit.
Everyone's eyes were on us, and Jiaro kept me close, drawing even more attention. I could sense their curiosity, and I overheard some females whispering while giving me curious glances. They looked quite different from me, with brown hair, brown eyes, and tan skin.
"Father, this is our female," Jiaro announced, and there was an audible gasp from the Usuro villagers.
"Hmm... Who is she? Why doesn't her face or name ring a bell?" the king inquired.
"Father, we found her in the Bhavik forest," Kairo added, causing another gasp from the villagers.
"You... what?" The king seemed utterly shocked.
"What if she brings harm to our village? It's been hundreds of years since we've seen a female in Usuro. Her presence is suspicious," said the female who had embraced Kairo, her statement finding agreement among the villagers.
"No, we assure you that she means no harm," Kairo replied. The whispers ceased.
"Now, everyone, calm down. As the King of Usuro, I command you to shift," the king instructed. All eyes remained fixed on me, and I was the center of attention.
Jiaro whispered to me to shift, and I nodded. In an instant, my eyes turned red, and my fangs elongated. The female who had embraced Kairo gasped and exclaimed that "she's not one of us."
The sight of my transformation alarmed them, and many Usuro inhabitants pointed their weapons at me. Jiaro and Kairo growled loudly, causing the villagers to step back but still keeping their weapons at the ready. The king and queen frowned, and I wondered what would happen next.
"Everyone, don't worry. Go back to your homes and get back to your work," the king commanded. A few villagers hesitated, but they followed his orders.
"But—" someone began.
"No 'buts,' obey my orders!" the king reiterated. The villagers complied, heading back to their homes.
Jiaro and Kairo led me to their parents' house. I sat down on a wooden sofa, with the two men protectively seated on either side of me. They were still being rather protective.
After a while, the king returned with the queen. The two men remained beside me, and all eyes in the room were focused on us.
"Female, introduce yourself to our king and queen," Jiaro said, so I proceeded to do so. To my surprise, the king and queen were stunned that I could speak their language. I explained how I knew their language and shared my story honestly and carefully. I didn't want to anger them, as they had been rather calm so far.
"You mentioned that you are a vampire," the queen stated. "Do you happen to know Dugo?"
I shook my head. I didn't know that vampires were referred to as Dugo. Could they have met others
