After getting "outed" neither of the girls could correct gallant or the students because of the cheering and the overwhelming amount of support. Quickly Madison pried Gallant's hand off of her and grabbed Zoe to leave.
The next day at school was nothing like they expected. If they thought the party was way too supportive, the school was even worse. Posters and stickers were made to tell everyone about the homecoming queens.
When Madison took one step on school grounds, she could hear people already talking about her. It was all positive but this wasn't how she thought she would get popular. Zoe joined her in walking around outside, both of them still stunned.
"We should probably correct them, this isn't right," Zoe said while looking around at all the new decor of them that was being put up.
Madison agreed, "This is not how I expected getting popular."
Right then the vice principal walked up to them, she was the bubbly counterpart to the actual principal. "Congratulations young ladies, I'm so proud of you two!" Miss Day cheered.
She pulled them both into a group hug, Madison tried to get away but Zoe just stood there. "We should get to class..." Madison said while looking uncomfortable in the presence of Miss Day.
Finally, she let go, "Well before you do, we are having an assembly to announce all the candidates, we hope you prepared a speech!" She said and then bounced away.
Zoe stared at Madison, looking for an answer in what to do with this whole situation, "Well?"
Madison thought for a bit, she was finally getting the status she wanted even if it was for false reasons. "I think we should just roll with it, I mean just until homecoming is over, we can fake breakup our fake relationship then."
"Madison! I'm not a lesbian though!" Zoe exclaimed as loud as she could without being heard.
"Well, I'm not one either! You even got Kyle to notice you, before this he didn't know of you. We can pretend for a while can't we?"
Zoe stared at Madison, her face showing complex emotions. Yes, Kyle noticed her and yes being popular could have its perks, but this is wrong. She looked at Madison's face, she was pouting, so Hesitantly Zoe gave in.
Later in the day, the bell rang for the next period. Zoe had gym with Madison but she was busy watching Kyle make some sort of gadget in her engineering class. When Kyle was done working he walked over to Zoe who was sitting on the desk pretending to work.
"Congrats on coming out yesterday, I hear you got everyone's vote including mine," He smiled and pointed to the sticker on his chest that read Vote For Zadison! "Gallant pulled me into making a bunch of stickers for him."
"Thanks for all the support," Zoe said in an unsure tone. She was still stunned that Kyle was talking to her but why did it have to be about her fake relationship with her best friend?
"Anything to help you guys out, and besides, I always thought you were cute." He said but then quickly corrected himself, "cute couple I mean..."
Zoe hopped off of the desk, making themselves closer. She didn't know where this random confidence came from but she wanted to lean in closer. Kyle was one step ahead of her.
So close until
The second warning bell rang.
Zoe faced away and Kyle stepped back, both of them looked like blushing idiots.
