Once Madison watched the kiss happen, she was furious. Zoe said over and over again how straight she was. It was one of the reasons they didn't date. She was so angry that as soon as she and Coco walked out of the party, Madison thought about her revenge plan: leak Zoe's embarrassing diary.
So that's exactly what she did. Pages from the journal were ripped out and scattered across the school.
Madison knew nothing too damaging was in the journal. Most of it was just details on how hot Kyle was or things about her brother, school, and the whole fake dating thing. It still cringed, but not enough to completely ruin her. Although Madison didn't read the whole thing, she started to fall asleep at how boring it was. What she didn't know, the last few pages were about her and the feelings Zoe had for her.
On Monday, Zoe arrived at school normally. She had no clue her property was published, so she was confused when people started eyeing her weirdly. She noticed a paper was on the floor, so she picked it up and read it. Right away, she noticed it was a passage from her diary.
Zoe picked up another paper, and then another, feeling mortified. The only person she knew had access to her diary was Madison...
But it couldn't be her, right?
She wouldn't do that, Zoe thought.
Instead of letting her mind wander, she decided to confront Madison and find out the truth. Zoe ignored all of the teasings and walked to the field where she knew Madison and Coco hung out before school.
"Wow, that's the angriest I've ever seen Zoe walk," Coco muttered as they watched Zoe walk across the field towards them, holding the pages.
Madison felt a little guilty but knew she shouldn't. Zoe kissed a girl in front of her, and it hurt. "Whatever..." she said and looked away until Zoe was right in front of them.
Zoe tried to keep her anger at bay. Who knows if Madison did this? It could be anyone. Instead, she took a deep breath. "Do you have anything to do with this?" she asked.
"Maybe," Madison shrugged. Zoe looked hurt, so her feeling a little guilty went to feeling a lot guilty.
She took Madison's answer as a yes. Her calmness was suddenly gone. It felt like she was about to blow up at her. "What the hell, Madison! How could you do this to me?"
"To you? How could you do this to me?" Madison replied, equally angry. "You're the one who kissed that Grace chick, knowing I could see!"
"What? No, Grace kissed ME!" Zoe corrected. There was no reason to think that she would kiss Grace. It came as a shock that Madison didn't believe her.
Madison stayed silent with her arms crossed. Coco stepped in front of Madison. "Oh yeah, like that's believable," she said sarcastically.
Zoe ignored Coco's comment, focusing on Madison. "Why are we even talking about this? I thought you were over me. It shouldn't matter."
"I was! I am..." Madison hesitated. She was over Zoe. It's just when she kissed Grace, it came as a bit of a setback. Madison felt jealous when she wasn't supposed to.
Coco budded in again, sounding more confident than Madison. "Well, how is she supposed to stay over you when you keep reeling her back in?"
"That's not what I was doing! How could you think that?" Zoe directed at them both. That made no sense anyway. If Madison was over her like she said she was, then none of this should have happened.
Madison shook her head. "What else am I supposed to think?"
Zoe walked away after that. She wasn't going to spend her time yelling before school. She went to her classes before anything could get worse.
