Flashback to the 1940s --- Steve’s POV
Steve let out a pained heartbroken scream as he watched his sister and best friend fall out of his reach. He reached his hand out in vain as they had already fell out of reach. He watched their bodies become dots as they fell to the ground and out of his sight.
He let out a heavy sigh as his tears began to fall. He could not take his eyes off the snow covered landscape as his tears fell and he collapsed to his hands and knees. Men gathered around him from various parts of the train unsure what happened but afraid to speak.
It was Peggy’s voice that finally broke his silence, “Steve, Steve you have to go,” he voice came through his earpiece. “The men don’t know what happened but they are leaving, the train is about to blow.”
Without a word he slowly stood up with the help of the men around him and attached new cables up and out of the train onto the mountain above. Steve didn’t even process what happened until he arrived back at Camp Leligh and Peggy and General Phillips stood in front of him.
“Where is Sergeant Barnes and Agent (Y/N)?” General Phillips asked placing a concerned hand on Steve’s shoulder.
“Fell,” Steve responded in agony as fresh tears fell from his eyes.
“Fell?” Peggy asked, understanding dawning on her as tears of her own reflected in her eyes.
“They tried to save each other, but they both fell,” Steve was able to explain as he choked on a sob. Peggy immediately wrapped her arms around Steve as they cried silently together.
General Phillips laid a hand on Steve’s shoulder, “then let’s win this war - for them.”

Your POV
You woke up numb to the word as your mind tried to process what happened. You remember falling from the train, seeing Bucky’s face, Steve’s face and then nothing. But now you were surrounded by pristine white walls and you could not feel anything.
You frantically sat up looking for Bucky, until finally you spotted him, unconscious and missing an arm. You pulled the tubes out of your arm ignoring them and walked over to Bucky trying to shake him awake.
“Buck,” you whispered checking your surroundings periodically, “Baby wake up.”
After a while Bucky finally stirred, “what?” he let out fluttering his eyes lashes. His face landed on you and his mind processed what happened. A few seconds later he sat up quickly and embraced you.
“Doll, I’m so sorry, I am so glad you are okay,” he whispered in your ear. Then he looked down at his arm, or lack of an arm with confusion.
“You can’t feel it can you?” you asked him looking at some of the medication that was going through his IV.
“No, that is strange,” he said trying to feel his shoulder where his arm should be.
“They have you on some pretty intense stuff,” you explained gesturing to some of the fluid bags, “I took mine out and I am starting to feel things again.”
“Are you okay?” he asked grabbing your hand and pulling you back to his side.
“For now,” you responded, “but where are we?”
“Hydra,” a new voice interjected from a hidden door. Bucky repositioned himself to be slightly in front of you in protection. A man entered the room, you knew it to be Dr. Zola, the man Steve was supposed to take.
“Hello Seargent Barnes, Agent (Y/L/N),” Zola said as a few more men entered the room behind him.
“What do you want?” Bucky asked eyeing up the men with guns.
“You two are going to be my new success, now that Schmidt has been stupid enough to pick a fight with Captain Rogers,” Zola explained.
“How do you mean,” Bucky asked again.
“He means he is going to turn us into someone like Steve,” you said to him in understanding.
“You are the brightest woman I have met,” Zola responded nodding at you, “you will make a powerful and smart soldier.” Zola walked up to but Bucky was still in the way. Zola nodded to some of the men who held Bucky down. You tried to fight against them but the pain you were now feeling was too much, maybe you should have left the medications in your arm, you thought. Two men held your arms behind you and steadied you upright.
Dr. Zola walked up to you and placed a hand on your cheek. Bucky struggled in the hospital bed he was pinned too but could do nothing. “You will make the transition first my dear, I want to see just how dangerous they can make you,” Zola said nodding to the men to take you out of the room. Bucky was yelling and struggling more as Zola walked up to him. “Send word for the doctor, Mr. Barnes will need a new arm before he transitions.”
“Bucky,” you yelled over the commotion of being dragged out of the room.
“(Y/N),” he shouted back desperately trying to reach you.
“They will be the most elite force, brought together by their strength and their bond,” Zola remarked to one of the other agents.
“Sir, conditioning will take away their memories,” the soldier responded.
“Science may take their memories, but a bond like theirs is something that is not easily broken,” Zola explained.
You were taken to another room and strapped into a strange device as scientists began injecting fluids into your body. As your vision was slowly fading from the countless things injected in you, one of the scientists whispered in your ear, “welcome to Hydra,” and then the darkness took over.
