Flashback to 1940s

You entered the base without incident, making you way slowly to the detention area.  Upon first glance there were several circular cages that seemed to hold hundreds of people.

“There has to be more than one division here,” you whispered to Steve.

“Does that change anything?” he whispered back as you got closer and closer to the cells.

“A little,” you responded.  You had approached the cages, the men inside looked curious to see a woman.

“Come here for entertainment little lady?” one of the asked sarcastically leaning on the wall of the cell.

You smirked at them, “actually I’ve come to get you out.”  You held up a set of keys that you stole from a wall on your way in and handed it to the men to let themselves out.

They took one look at Steve in his red, white and blue uniform and laughed, “and who are you supposed to be?”

“Captain America,” Steve answered matter-of-factly.  He had really accepted his identity.

After all of the people were out you looked around and did not see Bucky, “Has anyone seen James Barnes, he was a Sergeant of the 101st?” you asked the group.

Most of them shook their heads, but one of them spoke up, “The 101st was here before we were, I think a lot of them were taken to another level with some scientist.”

You nodded to him, “Thank you,” you cleared your throat getting everyone’s attention again.  “Ok, you will all sneak back through here and take out as many guards as you can on the way.  The base we came from is about 20 miles south of here, make your way that way and eventually someone will find you.”  They all silently nodded and made their way to multiple exits.

Steve grabbed your arm as you turned to head to the upper levels, “you’re going after Buck, aren’t you?” he asked already knowing your answer.

“Yes,” you responded.

“Not without me you’re not,” Steve resolved as he followed your head up to the next level.

The two of you began searching around the upper levels carefully.  Luckily the commotion from the other soldiers outside, seemed to keep the enemy occupied.  You and Steve had reached the last floor, it was cleaner than the other levels with several open rooms.

“This must be the medical bay,” Steve explained as you both began searching rooms.

You walked into one of the last rooms and noticed a map of other bases of this division.  “Steve, come take a look at this,” you called to him quietly motioning for him to enter behind you.

“Wow, this must be all their bases,” Steve whispered trying to memorize everything.  “This symbol on the flags, I recognize it from some of my research.  I don’t know the German but I think it translates to Hydra.”

You nodded in understanding and then moved on.  There were only a few rooms left in the hall and you were starting to lose hope that Bucky was here.

As you approached the last room you heard a faint moaning coming from inside.  You pushed hard against the door and walked in quickly looking around you.  But all of your senses left you defenseless as you laid eyes on the man on the table.

It was Bucky, wounded and struggling, but Bucky still.  You ran up to him not even bothering to see if anyone else was in the room as well.  “Oh my god, Bucky,” you whispered to him as your hands gripped the sides of his face.
