Flashback to the 1940s

The whole room looked shocked, well everyone except Peggy who only smiled at you in understanding.

“Absolutely not,” Bucky said.

“Buck-” you began.

“No (Y/N) this is not a discussion,” Bucky interrupted.  You usual soft face turned angry in a second.

“Outside Bucky, now!” you commanded turning on your heels and walking out.  Bucky looked around the room in shock.

“Don’t look at us Barnes, I think that was an order,” Peggy said with an amused smile on her face, “when are you going to learn how lucky you are to have a girl like her?”

Bucky’s face turned red with embarrassment, “of course I know I’m lucky,” he mumbled turning around and walking out of the tent.

Bucky walked up behind you and stood staring at your back with his head down, “doll-”

“No Bucky, you get to listen,” you said spinning around to face him, “I watch you march into danger so many times and I never say a word because it is what you signed up for.  I have always been here for you, I even stopped going into combat because you asked me to.  Everything I do, I do for you,” your voice softened now hooking a finger under his chin so he met your eyes.  “I am only asking this one time that you trust me enough to keep you safe.”

When you finished Bucky leaned his head against your forehead and placed a hand on each side of your neck, “it was never about trust doll, of course I trust you to keep me safe.”

You leaned up to him and placed a sweet kiss on his lips.  “But there’s one thing I need to ask you first,”

You smiled at him mischievously, “what is it?”

He cleared his throat a little clearly nervous then he bent down to one knee, “marry me?”

You breath caught in your throat, “Buck-”

“Before you say anything I planned on asking you before I left for the mission, that fact that you are coming did not influence this choice,” Bucky explained holding out a beautiful ring for you.

“Of course I will marry you Bucky,” you said jumping into his arms after he placed the ring on your finger gently.

He pulled your face to his and caught you in a heated yet loving kiss.  When you separated Peggy, Steve and General Phillips were smiling at you peeking through the flap of the command tent.  “It’s about time son,” General Phillips remarked.

Bucky laughed and for a few moments life was good, but time soon came to leave for the mission.  Peggy was standing by the small plane that was going to take you to the top of the mountain so you could climb down to the ledge more easily.

Peggy looked at you, “(Y/N) this is the most dangerous mission yet, I know you are sure about this, but I just wanted to remind you to be careful.”

“Oh Peggy, I will I promise,” you responded wrapping your friend in a tight hug.  She pulled away and handed you your bag which you slung over your shoulder.  “Besides, we’ll be in constant contact,” you laughed tapping your earpiece.

“I am not sure I trust Stark’s inventions to work on the top of a mountain,” Peggy laughed watching you slowly walking backwards onto the plane.

“Have a little faith,” you shouted over the engine of the plane revving up.

“I put my faith in real things,” Peggy shouted back holding her skirt down against the wind of the plane, “like you!”
