Present time - Soldier's POV - Trigger Warning
He watched as Shadow became more aware of where she was as the doctors reversed the prepping medications. Rumlow and his men began to surround her as she was still strapped in the chair.
He watched, but there was nothing he could do as they began torturing her relentlessly. He heard her pained screams, but could do nothing to save her. Each scream was like a knife in his heart and he ached to comfort her and help her.
Rumlow finally began asking Shadow questions, "do you remember who you are?" she stayed silent. "Do you remember where you are?" she stayed silent. "Do you remember why you are here?" she stayed silent. Finally Rumlow slapped her so hard her head hung off the side of the chair for a moment.
He could see the defiant look on her face causing Soldier to smile a little. "I asked you a question," Rumlow said but Shadow remained silent even in this state unwilling to let Rumlow win. "Alright then," Rumlow said stepping back and allowing his men to torture her again. The screaming continued as Shadow could no longer take the pain. Soldier's heart broke for her, he tried to come up with ways to make it stop, but he feared nothing would stop Rumlow and Pierce was certainly enjoying the show.
Soldier pulled against his restraints to try and reach Shadow, just to give her a small break from the pain, but whatever he did the restraints held.
Rumlow smiled menacingly at him, then he picked up Shadow's head and forced her to look at Soldier. "You see your little boyfriend there, he loves hearing your screams," he whispered to her not taking his eyes off Soldier.
Soldier pulled again, but could not get any closer to her. Tears stung Soldiers eyes as he got a good look at her mangled face and body, she was almost unrecognizable. One eye was swollen shut and there was blood all over, her lips and cheeks had long red gashes and she could barely breathe.
She turned from you and looked at Rumlow, "trying to beg for your life?" he asked her sarcastically.
Shadow smiled at him before spitting blood and saliva all over his face. "Son of a bitch!" he shouted backing up and reaching for a towel, "you'll pay for that!"
Rumlow and his men descended on Shadow again, she tried to hold back the screams for Soldier, but eventually they escaped her. Through the mess of it all she managed a smile for Soldier, though a pained one. She whispered to him from across the room as they continued to torture her, "if you get the chance, kill me."
