TRIGGER WARNING
Diagnosing a character on the autism spectrum.
It's getting late. Much too cold to go out. Angel starts walking around the room in circles. When he was younger his grandmother, Gina would tell him that he would make a whole in the floor if he kept it up.
Gina was really old and wasn't sure if she was serious or not but even if she was he wasn't going to listen to her.
The first thought that always pops in his head is that no one can tell him what to do just because they're older. To him it's always just been an excuse that they said to keep them under control.'Angel.' Glenn walks in the room.
'Oh, God. Are you angry?' Angel asks worryingly.
Glenn laughs 'No. Do I always look like angry?'
'Look like angry is not be grammatically correct. SEEM! Is more appropriate.' Angel says quickly.
Glenn inhales deeply and looks past it. Takes a seat at the table and hands Angel a newspaper page that he kept in the pocket of his old pajamas-shirt.
Angel opens it and reads the paragraphs highlighted in bright yellow. It's a list of personality traits and he can't even tell what few of them mean.Small variety of interest.

Angel hands the page back to his brother in confusion. 'What is this?'
'On the newspaper an article was published about a girl who has was diagnosed with a disorder called Asperger Syndrome...' Glenn proceeds to explain slowly. 'You're everything that is listed on there.'
'Glenn, I-I relate to a few... I Get sarcasm. I use it all the time.' Angel says, sweating.
'Not, always. You can't understand when someone is messing or just joking with you. Just because you use it sometimes it doesn't mean you can recognize it.'
'Okay, but I look people in they eye, I don't have a problem with it. I don't m-' He was about to say that he doesn't mimic others, but he often mimics characters that he sees on television and sometimes to converse he uses sentences that he hears from them. 'I don't have speech problems. Everyone always tells me that I am really good in English. So good that they even tell me that I sound American and never have I ever been to America.' He uses to most complicated slang words he can think of just to prove it.
Angel puts the page down on the desk 'Oh. And I am not dramatic. Thankyou very much. Besides I thought that you agreed with me. That anything that the news says is all lies.''Not everything that they say is a lie.' Glenn knew he would react this way. 'But it's not just something that I read on the newspaper. This article was published about a year ago. I did a lot more research in libraries, I've read a lot of books about it... You're Aspergers.'
Angel reads over the lines again, the one that stood out to him the most was that he could not maintain friendships. If he is forced to think about it Lukyo is his only friend. Reflecting on it he feels bad about arguing with her over the phone earlier. He's never argued with her that way, ever. 'Then explain it to me because I don't get it.'
Glenn explained to him in the best way possible what it means. Everything that he said was incredibly hard for Angel to accept, even though he knew that deep down it was true once they analysed it in detail.
His only interest are the occult, reading, vhs tapes and listening to music.
Some extremely eccentric behaviours of his are walking around in circles, watching the same movies on repeat.
Angel doesn't really take things literally, as he was learning English he also managed to learn a lot of figure of speeches by constantly asking the meaning of each sentence and word.
At first he didn't get what reading body language meant. Glenn pointed out that he can never tell if he is angry or not and struggles with social situations. The only word he ever had to describe it is "being shy".Looking back on it he got picked on a lot at school because he didn't get it. This one absolutely infuriated him. He doesn't get why you would want to make fun of someone simply because they don't get some of your jokes.
Angel thought that he didn't have a problem with this one but Glenn made him notice that he looks at people in the eyes just for a brief moment then he starts looking at the floor, or at the ceiling or focuses on minor details in the room or in a person's clothings.
He could never deny the fact that he lives in fantasy world. For him it's like going to a funpark in his head, it's a great way for him to relax, to just space off and not having to worry.
Angel doesn't really relate to this one because he likes going to pubs and coffee shops and would love a crowded place since they've been locked in for three days.
He didn't realize that it meant a metaphorical mask. He doesn't like that he's actually pretending to be someone he's not. Angel has always despised fake people that don't show their true face, right now he's starting to wonder if they did it for the same reasons but weren't even aware of it.
Glenn told him that he had trouble maintaining a conversation and people might misinterpret that as him not being interested in their company so they don't stick around. Also Aspergers like to talk about their topics of interest a lot, not asking others how they feel so they come off as self-centered. He's scared that all this time he's been behaving this way with Lukyo.
Angel gets angry so easily, it's not even funny, it's so exhausting and painful for him and even if he's in the right about a situation he's always made out to be in the wrong. That's what frustrates him the most.
Glenn named all types of examples where he hates certain smells that others can't even smell, some sounds for him are too loud and sometimes even being slightly tapped for him can feel a little painful.
'I would actually change this word. I don't want to say that you're dramatic. You're sensitive and...'
'Take things to heart...' Angel finishes his sentence woefully. He wishes he'd known sooner. He feels like he's lost his entire childhood because of this. Years and friendships that he burned because he didn't know that he could've done things differently.
I always knew I was different, but I saw it as being better than everyone else... I'm not. I'm worse. I have no idea why Lukyo would ever want to stick around. Angel's face softens up. His stomach burns, it feels bittersweet to him, almost relieved that he finally understands why he's so different.
Glenn hugs him and kisses him on the forehead.
Angel cries and holds his breath. He doesn't want to show that this got to him but it's a little too late for that.
