How long has it been since he been trapped in this darkness? How long has it been since he felt anything? Sawyer stared at the memory in front of him. That's all he saw. His memories. The good, the bad, and the in-between. Seeing all his old friends from the past, knowing that they are no longer alive, made his old grief rise to the surface. Now he was staring at a different him. One that became distant with his crew, one who locked up his emotions after the loss of his mentor Calico Jack. He was staring at the man that lived and breathed to be known as the Barbarian, the most feared and wanted pirate of the seven seas, King of the ocean.
"Captain, you have to see this," his second in command said.
Sawyer looked up from his paperwork. He stared at his second in command. His eyes looked at the one good eye the man had. Sawyer had gotten pissed one day, and his second in command was at the wrong place at the wrong time. With an initiated sigh Sawyer gets to his feet. Following his second in command Sawyer is surprised to see an enemy ship approaching fast.
"Well don't just stand there," Sawyer snapped," prepare for battle!"
He watched as his men ran around the deck getting into battle formation. Then the next thing Sawyer knew was the enemy boat turning sharply avoiding his boat.
"Sir, do we go after them?" One of his crew asked.
A devilish smile played at his lips. He raised his hand and watched as the ocean rose in front of the fleeing boat. Faint screams of terror could be heard from the men on that boat.
"No, let them drown," Sawyer said. And he watched as the water crashed down onto the boat. His men relaxed but stiffened when they realized that their captain was bringing someone to them. Making the water release who it held, Sawyer looked down at a strange purple-haired girl. Using his foot he forced her to look up at him. Her blue eyes held fear in them as she stared at him.
"You the one that turned that ship?" Sawyer asked. He looked her up and down. She was wearing old, torn, shabby clothes. She had a piercing on her left eyebrow. He watched as she nodded her head.
"You weren't a part of that crew, correct?" Sawyer asked. She nodded again.
"Prisoner?" He questioned. Again she nodded.
"Got a name?" He asked.
"Megan," the girl said.
"I don't like that, it doesn't suit you," Sawyer said," I think Violet is a much better name for you."
Holding out a hand he waited for her to grab it. When she did he helped her to her feet. She was hesitant and he could understand why.
"Well, Violet, you seem much more capable at steering a boat," Sawyer said," how do you feel about being a part of this crew?"
"As long as I'm not sold," Violet said.
"I don't sell my crew," Sawyer said," but I'll warn you now if you piss me off more than once you'll end up dead."
"Umm, sir, we don't have any space for her," one of his crew said.
"Well we can't have that," Sawyer said. Pulling out his dagger he threw it at the man who spoke. It landed in the man's head. Sawyer watched as the man dropped dead. Inhaling through his nose Sawyer spoke," anyone else wants to piss me off today, no, good."
Sawyer smiled at that memory. He really didn't like Violet's name and was pleased that she kept the name he gave her. He never bothered to find out why she was on that boat, or why she kept her hair purple.
