Willow sat on the floor folding clothes. Sawyer laid on the couch asleep. Dawn laid on top of him also asleep. Dawn had been up most of the night crying. She had woken up twice to tend to Dawn, but Sawyer had been up longer than her. He spent the rest of his night awake trying to get Dawn to go back to sleep. When Willow had woken up that morning she had found them in the living room. Dawn was asleep in his arms. She had asked how long he had been up. And she was not that surprised when he told her since midnight. She suggested taking Dawn from him so he could get a couple of hours of sleep in. He agreed, but as soon as Willow tried to take Dawn she started to cry. She tried to get Dawn to quiet down for a half-hour before Sawyer took her. He sat back on the couch and calmly bounced her until she fell back asleep. Not even 15 minutes had gone by before Sawyer had laid down on the couch. They talked for a while. And when Willow looked over at him from where she was he was asleep. He had fallen asleep as she told him what she had planned for the day. So now here she was, sitting on the floor going through their clothes.
"Mmm," Sawyer hummed.
Willow looked over at him and watched as he slowly sat up.
"Well good morning," Willow said.
"How long did I sleep?" Sawyer asked stretching. Dawn laid beside him on the couch. Willow looked over at the clock that hung on the wall. "About two hours," Willow answered.
She watched as he groaned and rubbed his face. He still looked exhausted.
"If you want to try to get a few more hours of sleep you can," Willow said.
"No, it's fine," Sawyer said," besides if we let Dawn sleep any longer than this we'll have a hard time getting her to sleep tonight."
"You have a point," Willow said. Standing from the floor she walks over to the couch and picks up Dawn. As soon as she disturbed Dawn, Dawn began to cry. "Now, Dawn, you can't sleep forever," Willow said with a chuckle.
Willow was amazed at how much Dawn loved and hated sleep. It reminds her a lot of how Sawyer was before his family caused their problems. He would stay up late into the night, rarely going to bed early. But no matter what time he would go to sleep, he slept until eleven or noon, the only time he would be up before those times would be because something happened and he was needed. But now she would wake up most mornings in bed alone, or be woken up to Sawyer claiming in or out of their bed. She knows he tries to be quiet when he got up or rejoining her in bed.
"So, what plans did you have for today?" Sawyer asked.
"Oh, nothing now," Willow said," but I do have a question." She noted the glass of rum in his hand as he motioned her to ask away.
"Well we are close to the ocean," Willow said. He was nodding his head, waiting for her to ask her question. "Well, with all her crying wouldn't there be a storm or something?" She asked. She looked at him waiting for an answer. She wasn't expecting him to laugh though. She waited for him to finish.
"Sorry, I sometimes forget that you know little to nothing about supernatural," Sawyer said with a chuckle," but to answer your question no there will be no storm or anything special."
"But she is supernatural right?" Willow asked.
"Yes, as long as one parent is supernatural the child will always be different from others," Sawyer said. Willow was now confused. She wasn't sure what he was meaning, and he must have gotten the hint and continued to explain. "One of your ancestors fucked an angular person which resulted in her having a halfbreed- "
"What does this have to do with Dawn?" Willow asked.
"If you would just let me finish you'll know," Sawyer said. Willow apologized and let him continue. " because of your angular human ancestor each of its descendants would be different from other humans."
"That still doesn't tell me anything," Willow said. She immediately apologized again for interrupting him.
"You change appearance when you're in the ocean," Sawyer said," you are supernatural because of your ancestor, Dawn is a supernatural because of us."
"But then why is nothing happening when she cries?" Willow asked.
"Because her powers won't manifest until she gets older," Sawyer said.
"When did yours show up?" Willow asked.
"Mine appeared when I turned two," Sawyer said," but for my brother, it was at the age of five."
"So why didn't your powers show up when you were a baby?" Willow asked.
"So we look more human," Sawyer said," supernaturals have been hunted and killed for decades, even now not many people except supernaturals."
"But your crew does," Willow said," doesn't that matter?"
She noted that he didn't answer. He didn't look happy.
"Sawyer?" Willow said.
He didn't respond to her. He just finished his drink and turned away from her.
"Sawyer, is everything okay?" Willow asked.
"You can't consider them human anymore," he said.
"Why not?" Willow asked.
"I bargained with someone," Sawyer said.
She was quiet. She didn't know what to say or do. What had he bargained for? And with who? What had his bargain cost him?
"It was with the chaos king," Sawyer said not looking at her. He was leaning against the wall. He wasn't even looking at her anymore
"You made a bargain with the chaos king," Willow repeated. Ahe could hardly believe what she just heard. Everyone knows of the unforgivable king of chaos. Children are told stories of him and warned not to go looking for him. And if you found yourself in his presence to pray that you got to live.
"Why would you do that?" Willow asked.
"Because.... I was tired of being... alone," Sawyer said, whispering the last word.
"What did you bargain for?" Willow asked.
"A crew that wouldn't age," Sawyer said," the price for it was half my life."
