Marcus ~
Marcus spent the next few days spending time with Caroline, exchanging "I love yous" every few minutes like a couple of love sick teenagers, but they didn't care. It was finally starting to sink in that this was all real, that it wasn't a dream and that he and Caroline truly had a second chance at starting a life together.
Grinning like an idiot the entire way to work, Marcus shot off a quick text to Caroline once he'd arrived at Knight, confirming that she, Natalie and Claire were going to have a pool day at Claire's pool.
He shut his car door, waving at Lexi who was doing physical therapy exercises in the gym as he headed inside toward his office.
"What up Mac?" Declan said as Marcus passed by his office.
"Hey Boss, bout to hit the shooting range for some target practice."
"I think most of the guys are down there doing the same. Pierce and I were about to head that way ourselves." Declan said.
"How's Caroline?" Hunter said from down the hall.
"Good sir, feeling much better, just soreness instead of pain now."
"Good."
Marcus, Pierce and Declan were all heading down the hall toward the armory when a female voice sounded from the front of the office.
"Where's my big tough guy?" Kenzie's voice echoed down the hall with a baby tone that was clearly meant for Zeus.
"She talking to you or Zeus?" Pierce joked as they passed Hunter's office.
"Shut the fuck up." Hunter grumbled as he stood, letting Zeus go bounding down the hall toward what seemed to be his new favorite person.
"He seems to have really taken a liking to her." Marcus said, watching Zeus wiggle and jump with excitement to see Kenzie.
"He's not the only one." Pierce muttered, wiggling his eyebrows.
"Hollywood, I swear to God." Hunter threatened as he exited his office, walking down the hall.
The group knew they should probably mind their own business and continue on their path toward the armory, but watching Hunter interact with a woman was a rare occurrence and they couldn't help but stare in disbelief.
"Here I brought you this." Kenzie said brightly, holding out an object for Hunter to take.
"A rock?" Hunter said with an arched brow.
"It's not a rock, it's a crystal." Kenzie corrected him confidently with humor in her voice.
"What's it for?" Hunter said, turning it over in his hand, visibly confused by the gesture.
"I figured you could put it on your desk here. It's a mood lifting stone." Kenzie said brightly.
Hunter wasn't amused and furrowed his brows, cocking his head to the side in complete and utter confusion. Unfazed by Hunter's intimidating stares, Kenzie put her hands on her hips and gave him a smile that went up to her eyes as she shook her head at him.
"It'll make you less grumpy." She sassed.
"You think putting a damn rock on my desk is going to make me less grumpy." Hunter chuckled.
"Well it just made you smile a little so maybe it's already working." Kenzie sassed with a grin before patting Zeus on the rear that was still wiggling with joy to see her.
"Come on buddy, tell daddy you'll see him at 5:00" Kenzie said to Zeus, but kept her eyes locked on Hunter as she turned and left through the front doors.
