Caroline ~
The next morning Caroline woke up bright and early, ready to get the answers to her question so she could formulate a plan with Marcus and the rest of Charlie Team.
After some morning PT, she jogged over to Cooper's office, but he must not have been up yet.
"Baker, get in here." Fox yelled from down the hall.
That's more like it, back to using my alias last name instead of the Caroline bullshit he was trying to manipulate me with yesterday.
"Sir?" She answered, popping her head inside the door frame.
"What the fuck is Cordell doing here?" Fox growled.
Why do you care?
Caroline controlled her suspicious expression and tried to act as surprised as possible.
"He was assigned to a five man tactical team that's stationed here."
Fox narrowed his eyes at Caroline, glaring at her from across the room. It was clear his temporary concern for her feelings and remorse for the way he spoke to her was long gone and he was back to his old self.
"So it's all just a big fucking coincidence? That's the bullshit you're going to try to sell me right now?" Fox snapped.
"I'm sure its no coincidence sir. I would imagine that he gladly accepted a job closer to me so we could be near each other for the next few days...you know, until I'm released from my contract." Caroline said, reminding him of their conversation from yesterday.
"I don't want him or any of Hunter Hall's goons distracting you." Fox said coldly.
Caroline let Fox's insult roll off her back, clenching her teeth against the need to come to their defense.
"And when have you known me to be distracted by men? I'm the distracter, remember?" Caroline shot back.
"Very well. I'm sending you out this morning to meet with an asset, so get dressed because your meeting location is two hours out and your ride leaves in twenty." Fox said flatly, turning his attention back down to the documents in front of him.
He's trying to send me out before I have a chance to talk to Marcus.
"Fine, where am I going?" Caroline asked.
"Your driver will have the location." Fox said without lifting his head from the files in his hands.
Caroline entered the room, taking heavy angry steps as she approached his desk.
"I'm not going anywhere blind, tell me where you're sending me." Caroline demanded.
Fox lifted his gaze with nothing but hatred in his eyes at Caroline's demand for information. He shuffled the papers on his desk until he found the file he wanted in his drawer and slapped a map down on the desk facing her, pointing harshly at a point on the map.
Caroline scanned the map and her eyes went wide as she shook her head.
"No, absolutely not. That motel is abandoned and is in the middle of fucking no where with nothing but dangerous compounds surrounding it. No." Caroline refused.
"No? Did you just say no? After all I've done for you, letting you out of your contract so you can go play house in California, you're going to tell me No?"
That place was notorious for ambushes and kidnappings, it was nothing but empty rooms that could easily conceal upwards of fifty men. It wasn't just a dangerous location, it was a death trap.
