Marcus ~
Caroline worked relentlessly on Marcus' cuffs but couldn't figure out a way to pick them without assistance.
She scanned the room, looking for anything sharp that she could use to pick the lock, but there was nothing in the room except them.
"Shit." She muttered as she continued to work, refusing to give up, which didn't surprise Marcus in the least.
Marcus strained against the metal, trying to find a weakness in the cuffs that he could exploit in order to break free, but it was no use.
"Saw they were stupid enough to bring your go bag." Carline scoffed under her breath.
"There's a sat phone in there." Marcus whispered.
Caroline's head whipped up for a second in disbelief before she refocused her attention on freeing Marcus' hands.
"Morons." She whispered with a smirk.
"And I've still got these." Caroline held up her dog tags that contained Nate's tracker.
Hell yes.
The problem was, Caroline wasn't making any progress with the cuffs on Marcus' hands and whispered a few more curses under her breath, before voices started to echo from down the hall.
Both of them shot their gaze to the door and Marcus felt his body flood with adrenaline, fearful for Caroline's safety.
"You gonna lay back down and wait till I can figure a way out of these?" Marcus asked quickly.
"Are you kidding me? God only knows what that asshole has in store for us when he comes back in here. Element of surprise gives me an advantage." Caroline said without a hint of fear in her voice.
"But I'm still pinned down. I can't help and there were at least four men that brought us down here." Marcus said, trying to convince Caroline to wait so he could help her.
"I know." She said confidently as she readied her body for a fight.
"You don't even have a weapon baby." Marcus said, practically pleading with her not to engage the combatants coming down the hall.
Caroline turned over her shoulder and leaned over, cupping Marcus' face in her hands as she spoke.
"If I were Dec or Hunter, would you be asking me to wait?"she asked softly.
What a stupid question.
Marcus scoffed at her question, but the more he thought about it the more he saw her point. They were only going to have a few opportunities to break out of that room and this was one of them. He knew if Declan or Hunter had freed themselves and had the element of surprise or if the roles were reversed, Marcus wouldn't hesitate or wait.
He huffed out an irritated breath before answering.
"No."
"So why are you asking me to?" She asked with a smile.
"Because I love you." Marcus admitted openly.
His words only made her smile grow brighter as the voices grew louder.
"Then trust me." She said as she pressed her lips against his in a quick kiss.
"You got a blade on you?" Caroline asked, keeping her eyes glued to the door as she tightened her vest.
"Holster on the back of my belt."
Marcus leaned forward, letting Caroline take the tactical knife from his belt and tried to tamp down the fear that was taking hold of his lungs as he watched her lay down on the ground where they had left her.
