Treecko

I haven't played any of my Pokémon games recently, and since yesterday (June 4th) was the day I played Pokémon for the first time 11 years ago, I thought I'd play some Pokémon on that special day for me. I knew I wanted to play White 2 because I'm still trying to complete the national dex. I'm very close- no more than 20 Pokémon away. And yes, there's still a way to access the WiFi servers on the DS systems, even though they were discontinued in 2014. I've been using this method to connect to the GTS to make trades, which is how I've been getting it done.

I never used the GTS all too much in the past, but comparing it to the GTS in the 3DS games, there's one factor that makes it more inefficient than the newer ones. In the newer ones, when you're trying to search for a Pokémon, there's an option called "What Pokémon?" that lets you type in a Pokémon name, even if it isn't registered in your Pokédex. The gen 5 GTS doesn't have this option, so it's almost impossible to get a Pokémon you haven't encountered in the game because there's no way to search for it.

These are the Pokémon I don't have registered in my Pokédex (and therefore will have an extremely hard time getting):
Unown
Treecko
Grovyle
Sceptile
Mudkip
Marshtomp
Swampert
Spinda
Piplup
Prinplup
Empoleon

(This unfortunately is the case for the Piplup line, and it breaks my heart.)

The only way I will be able to get one of these unregistered Pokémon is through GTS Negotiations, which is a lot like Wonder Trade. Basically you are connected with a random person, and you and the person can offer up to 3 Pokémon to trade. These Pokémon don't have to be registered in your Pokédex. After you both select your Pokémon, you pick one of the other player's options to trade. There are also 4 icons you can click on (smiley face, frowning face, heart, and exclamation point) to show the other person. (Back before the WiFi was shut down, this is what I did, rather than the GTS. I especially liked trolling people by putting up a legendary to offer, waiting for them to spam the smiley face icon, then taking it down and putting up something stupid like a Bidoof, then they would start spamming the frowning face icon. I don't know why I found it so funny, but I did.)

However, the issue with Negotiations is that not many people do this anymore, so it takes long to find a partner. (I tried it today and timed it- it took 2 and a half minutes before I found a partner.) Then you have to hope the other person happens to have the Pokémon you're looking for, and that they don't just want to trade shiny Pokémon or legendaries. Also I find that it likes to disconnect a lot. Yesterday I was about to begin the trade with someone, then I lost connection. Then today I was about to trade with someone, then it disconnected (which, in this case, was good because I was about to trade away a Scizor for something I didn't want).

Ok enough complaining. Story time. I went on Negotiations today and after 2 and a half minutes found a partner to trade with. (Yes, this is the same time as the one I mentioned already.) The other person showed a Treecko first, and I hit the smiley. The Treecko line was one of the ones I didn't have registered in my dex, so I really needed it. After a few no's from the other person, they eventually agreed on an Abomasnow I had. We both confirmed the trade and I was holding my breath I wouldn't get disconnected. Thankfully it didn't, and now I have my hands on a Treecko! (It had a jolly nature and pokerus too.) We went to do another trade (which I already described above- the story about the Scizor) and thankfully got disconnected.

There's no way that person who traded me the Treecko is reading this, but if you are, thank you so much! You made my day! I didn't think I'd ever have a Treecko in this game! I went to evolve it after the trade and now it's a Sceptile! Thank you again! You don't know how much this means to me!
