Part 3 of 3: Training review, Aftermath of shooting, and a new face arrives.
(Continued from Bret's POV)
I woke up at about midnight hearing a breathing noise that sounded like someone dying. I looked up and saw Marshall's staples, broken from his head and he was bleeding out pretty slowly.
I called the doctor into our tent and he evaluated Marshall's head making sure he wasn't dying.
"Well," The Doctor sighed, "We might need more staples or he might not be able to enter Pogoren."
I reacted quite confused, "He's... the fourth person in our group."
The Doctor queried, "What if I give him painkillers? Would that help him?"
I nodded saying, "What's tomorrow?"
"Saturday." The Doctor saluted and left to go and grab the painkillers for Marshall.
I wondered if Marshall's PTSD would affect him if we entered Pogoren. It flooded me badly, I wanted answers but, I was way too tired.
Rocky looked over at me, "Did killing Nick make you happy?"
I shook my head, "Absolutely fucking not! No!" I practically yelled.
"Oh well, good look killing in Pogoren." He scoffed.
I looked back at Everest, "You okay Eve? You look sad."
She looked up at me, "I don't think I should do this."
I sat up with nock, "Eve, you have to do this, your father will be proud of you."
She came over to me, "No, this just doesn't feel right."
"Please you did all of this for nothing? Where's the friend who would agree with me?"
"I can't Bret, think about Skye, look what she's been through, almost being raped twice, by Chase and Tracker, but I just want Skye to be happy."
"That's why I'm here."
"You know, maybe he's right Everest. Maybe you should stay." Rocky intervened.
"Rocky, it's a one-on-one talk." I looked back at Everest.
"Bret, I think I need to leave for a second." She stepped out of the camp, and I find allowed behind.
I stepped out to see Everest crying, "What's wrong?"
"I just don't feel like I should be here. A girl shouldn't be in a place like Pogoren."
"You do because Marshall needs you."
"I just don't want to die in a foreign country, rather than Canada."
"Now hold up. You'd die in Canada?"
"Bret, my Dad's Canadian. You just don't know it."
"Are you Canadian?"
"Barely."
"Well then, at answers that."
"I have a question."
"Yeah?"
"Do you think Me and Skye would make a great couple?"
There was a pause after that question, we both blushed and I don't why Eve would blush.
"Uhh," She stuttered, "Sure! Why not?"
"Yeah, I think it would work out."
"Heh, Smartass."
We laughed it off, "I think we could work out something."
