Landon's pov
We had all migrated to Dr. Saltzman's office and were now standing around the room awkwardly. No one really knew what to say and no one seemed to want to take charge. Hope was standing to my right, Lizzie sitting in an armchair on my left, Kaleb, Jed and Seylah were all near the door and Josie and MG stood in front of Rick's desk - Rick behind it. Dr. Saltzman sighed, knowing someone had to say something.
"So, Seylah, is there anything you remember that could help explain how you're here?" He sat back in his chair - it was only eight and he looked like he was already done with today.
"I woke up near a clocktower about three weeks ago; there were monsters, it looked like an apocalypse. After around a week I assumed most humans had died out but then early this morning I found myself in town square. I recognized it from the past few weeks except it looked perfectly normal, sun, people. Someone told me I was in Mystic Falls and I remembered you saying your school was in Mystic Falls, Virginia, I asked someone to point me to the Salvatore School and here I am. I didn't realize you'd still be here, I'm glad you are." Seylah explained, she said the last bit looking at me, she seemed genuine. I forgot she didn't know I was enrolled here, that she wouldn't have expected to see me in the assembly.
"The prison world," Jed muttered, looking at Kaleb.
"The what?" Seylah asked skeptically.
"Prison worlds are almost like alternate universes. It's the same day repeating over and over again, nothing that happens in a prison world can affect our reality but they are exact replicas of this world." Josie tried explaining.
"We sent Malivore there and he's probably been releasing all the monsters in his dimension, he must have just spat you up too. Because... why not?" Lizzie said, not really caring that much.
"Great, so there's a portal out of the prison world," Rick sighed.
"Well, we had one month of peace, that's pretty good for us," MG joked, trying to find the bright side.
"But how does a portal even open?" Hope cut in, "to get out of a prison world you need Bennett blood, a celestial event, even magic. So how?"
"You can add it to the list of the things I don't know," Rick replied. "I know I'm the theoretical adult here but you guys are the supernaturals, figure it out."
"Alright, Lizzie, Josie and I will focus on the prison world," Hope started before Alaric interrupted her.
"No, I'll work with Lizzie and Josie on the prison world, I know more about them, Kaleb and Jed, watch the gate, tell us if you see anything weird, MG, you need to convince the rest of the students that everything is perfectly normal by taking charge of the school for the day. Hope, Landon, stick with Seylah but get ready for if any monsters show up."
"Doesn't not telling the other students sound suspiciously like your methods from last year, because in case you forgot, that didn't end well, Dad." Lizzie said, She made a fair point. I saw Seylah's face change slightly when Lizzie said that and Seylah realized that Lizzie and Josie were Rick's daughters.
"We will tell them when we know for sure that there is something to tell, okay Lizbear," Alaric replied, "Now everyone just go do your jobs,"
"Whatever," Lizzie said, her, Josie and Rick left for the library, MG stayed in the office to take over Rick's duties for the day, Kaleb and Jed went to the front gate and Hope, Seylah and I started walking to the staircase that leads up to the dorms.
Kaleb's pov
Jed and I walked side by side down the driveway to the front gate, laughing about nothing in particular and joking about how ridiculous our lives were.
"What do you think the other students' reactions will be if Malivore comes back?" I asked him when we reached the gate. He held one of the rails and casually looked out beyond it.
"I don't know. I don't think anyone will really be surprised, people around here have been holding their breath for the past month," he shrugged. "At least we won't have to do much school work if the monsters come back. I forgot what it was like to have to actually go to class, it's been a month and I'm already drowning." he laughed, looking at me now.
I sighed. "It's not like any of us are ever getting out of here anyway, I don't think Rick remembers how to run the school without us," I laughed and he nudged my shoulder.
"Yeah, you're probably right," he agreed. We argue about the smallest things so much, and it's fun but I love it when he agrees with me. We kept joking around for a few more minutes until Jed began tapping on my arm and when I looked over at him he pointed out beyond the gate.
"Dude look," he whispered as I looked through the gate rails to see what looked like a griffin headed our way.
"Shit," I muttered under my breath.
"Kind of cool though, don't you think?" Jed asked, staring at the half-lion-half-eagle, fascinated.
"Yeah, I guess so,"
"So time to call Hope?" Jed asked , turning to look at me, completely unfazed.
"Time to call Hope," I repeated, nodding at him.
