Hope's pov
"Shouldn't we get the others first?" Seylah asked as walked out the main door of the Salvatore School.
"No, we'll be fine," I replied, "I've read about how to kill a griffin while trying to find weaknesses for other monsters."
"You guys do this sort of thing a lot?" Seylah asked.
"Yeah, a lot more than you'd think," Landon laughed. "So what is a griffin's weakness?" He asked, turning to me.
"Griffin's hate fire," I said, smirking at him.
"Well that's convenient," Lan smirked back at me, we shared a secretive smile for a second before Seylah spoke again.
"Ok, what is that? That look, what are you two smiling about?"
Lan and I laughed and turned back to her.
"Let's just say we have a secret weapon," I said, knowing we'd be able to kill the Griffin easily with Landon's help.
We made our way down the driveway to where Kaleb and Jed stood by the gate, staring beyond it.
"Hey," Landon and I both said in unison as we approached them. They turned to greet us and smiled like it was any other day. The boys pointed behind the huge school gate at the rapidly approaching creature and we all looked at each other for a minute. At this point everyone in the Super Squad can practically read each other's thoughts, we know each other so well. After a moment of mind-searching I turned away from the guys and looked at the gate.
"De sara portus," I said and the gates swung open.
"What the hell are you doing?" Seylah asked from behind me, "Isn't the point of this to kill it and keep it out of the gates?"
"Kill it, yes, but we can't do that without having full access to it," Kaleb explained, grabbing a random hatchet that he just happened to have in his bag, because he's Kaleb, always ready for battle.
"So what's it's weakness? Do we know?" Jed asked, still staring fascinated at the griffin.
"Fire," I answered quickly.
"Well this we'll be easy," He laughed looking at Landon next to him. Seylah clearly had no idea about Landon being a phoenix, why would she? If she knew what he was she would've told us last year.
"Why do you guys keep talking about killing it with fire like it's the easiest ever?" Seylah asked. It wasn't hard to tell that she was getting pissed about nobody telling her anything.
"Wait, she doesn't know?" Kaleb asked.
"Yeah, I thought she would," Jed said after him.
"No, she doesn't yet but that's about to change," I answered the boys. The griffin was approaching fast and we got in position.
Finally it reached the gate and began to screech.
"Aren't griffins supposed to be friendly?!" Jed yelled, wincing at the sound.
"Not to supernaturals," Landon said.
"Sa len seal," I said but it wouldn't work on it. I tried something else, "Imobilus." It only worked for a second before he began toward us again. I groaned in frustration. "Morus." The creature was flung back through the air and landed hard on the gravel.
"How can we even help in this scenario?" Kaleb asked Jed, who shrugged.
"I just sit back and let them do it,"
I looked over at Landon as the griffin stood up again. I nodded at him. He nodded back and just like that his wings were out and he was in the air, he threw a fireball at the griffin and it wailed in pain.
"Well that works," Jed observed and I nodded at him.
"Incendia." I yelled and another fireball hit the creature.
"Too bad Josie's not here," Kaleb laughed. Josie does love fire.
Landon swept through the air and threw another wave of fire at it. It screamed in pain again and Landon landed on it's back and placed a hand on the back of it's neck. The heat generated from Landon's powers went through his hand and crept over the monster's skin, burning it with his touch.
Landon had activated a lot of his powers recently, coming back stronger than ever after being stabbed by the golden arrow.
The griffin fell to the ground in agony and with one more fireball from me it collapsed.
Landon jumped down and looked at the creature.
"Kaleb, check if it's dead," I instructed and he focused on listening for it's heartbeat.
"Nothing, it's dead." He replied.
"Great, now we have to come back and bury it." Jed sighed sarcastically.
"You bury the monsters you kill?" Seylah asked, surprised.
"Even monsters deserve a proper burial," Landon answered solemnly.
"Did Alaric teach you guys that?" Seylah asked, smiling at Landon.
"That, and everything else." I said as we all turned to go back and tell the rest of the squad about the dead griffin. Seylah didn't reply to that, she just nodded and smiled to herself.
On the way back I caught glimpses of Seylah looking over at Landon, she looked proud. Confused too of course, but proud nonetheless.
After we got back to the main building we went straight to Rick's office to get MG, who we found sitting in Rick's chair, drinking a blood bag and reading a comic book. Then we went to the Stefan Salvatore memorial library where Rick and the twins had found absolutely nothing and we told them about the griffin and the body that was now lying in our driveway.
