A week after Zoe miraculously accepted my apology and we had our first kiss, we're sitting at the place where I found Zoe crying just a few weeks ago, and we're just talking.
Zoe speaks up hesitantly. "Jae, do you, um, wanna try..."
"Try what?"
She blushes. "Um, you know, like, making, out?"
Oh. That. "U-Um, o-ok, I guess." She leans in and I tilt my head. We slowly and hesitantly close the distance between us until I'm closing my eyes and I can feel her lips gently pressing against mine. At first we just hold it, but then I cradle her cheek with my hand and I start to actually kiss her. That same huge rush of stuff starts flooding my entire body again. Zoe starts to kiss me back and I have to readjust a bit to make it right. Once I do, everything feels ridiculously amazing.
"I knew it!"
I pull away from Zoe in surprise. Why is Alex here? He said he had some stuff to do. "Uhh, knew what?" Me and Zoe scramble to seem like we were just casual the whole time, definitely not making out a millisecond ago. She looks away from Alex, probably embarrassed.
Alex sits down next to me. "I knew something was up between you two! When Zoe started doing that head-on-shoulder thing with you, I knew you guys started dating."
"So what if we're dating?" shoots back Zoe. "Not like you and Amélie aren't dating."
"Well we aren't 'cause right now we're still friends. Really good friends, to be precise. But you two are already making out!"
Ok, he has a point. "We were just trying it, but fine, you caught us, so what?" I ask.
"So yeah! When'd this whole thing start?"
Zoe sits up. "A week ago. Are you happy now?"
Alex steps back. "Whoa, something wrong?"
Silence.
"Ohh, you're angry about me for interrupting... you know, the thing I interrupted?"
She crosses her arms. "Obviously."
"Ok then, uh, I'll just go."
Once Alex leaves, Zoe sighs and lies down on my lap. "I didn't know you were such a good kisser."
I didn't know I was a good kisser either. "Um, ok. But I don't think you should be asking to... you know, every time. I-If we do it again." When I lay my arm on Zoe's side, or ribs, I don't know, I can feel it rising and falling as she breathes. It feels freaky but also amazing.
"Ok." Zoe laughs, holds my hand that's laying on her side and pulls it closer to her, so it wraps around her entire body. I grip her hand tight, and her body feels really warm.
I am obviously new to this boyfriend-girlfriend stuff, so I'm not sure what to do next. Do I like, kiss her? Or...
"Jae, I wanna ask you something."
"Ok."
She shifts a bit. "Is this, like, love? Like, do we love each other? Or, um, I dunno."
"Um..." If Zoe likes me, and now we're dating, I think, does that mean she loves me? And then there's me. I think I don't completely love Zoe yet because all of this happened suddenly. I need to time get used to this, and then I'll probably love Zoe completely. Not like any other girl loves me, or wants me to love them. "Let's just say we're trying out the whole thing. To see if we fit together."
Zoe moves so she's facing up at me. "Fit together. That sounds nice." She smiles at me, and I can't help but smile back.
