"What?"

"You know what I'm talking about."

"I'm on birth control, Daniel. I know that Jelly is the only person you're willing to take that risk with."
Why did I just say that?

He shook his head in annoyance, before snatching up his sweatpants. I watched as he gathered the rest of the money, while heading toward the door, and slamming it on his way out.
I felt like I was turning into a miniature Chantel. I was never picking at my relationship every three seconds, but, at the same time, I had never been in this situation. Sure enough, it could drive any sane woman crazy.

"I just regret it all. I knew I wouldn't get pregnant, I just wanted to see how things would play out... and I know it's childish, but I was in a bad place. That wasn't me. I'm really embarrassed about it, and it's just that I was so caught up in trying to compete with Jelly and even Chris, but I'm over it now. I want things back to the way they were." I confided in Meilani, while she listened carefully, sipping her alcoholic beverage through a thin straw. It was barely noon, and she was already having her second drink.

"Look Kaidyn, you're the only one with some damn sense, out of those bitches. You can't be pulling them crazy ass stunts like Chantel, and expect to keep a man. I'm just saying, girl."

"Wow... such great advice." I tilted my head with sarcasm. I don't even know why I decided to talk to her about it. It's been proven that she could barely make any sensible choices of her own.

"Seriously, I think you should just tell him how you really feel. With the way you're acting, you'll push him away, to the point where it can't be fixed."

I agreed, nodding my head and checking my watch, I was late for my meeting with Chris. "I have to go. I'll talk to you later." Rising from the stool, I hurried out of the building, hoping I could make it in time.

*
"I'm sorry, Chris. I lost track of time." I apologized, as he pulled my chair out, while I placed my purse on the table.

"It's fine, I understand."

"Well Chris, I didn't cancel our meeting, because I wanted to let you know personally, that he dropped all charges."
He reclined in his seat, waiting for me to continue, while running his finger around the rim of the glass. "My fiancé wrote him a check for the rest of the money. So, it looks like I won't be going to court after all."

"Your fiancé?"

"Yes, Daniel. I told you about him last time."

"Yeah, I know, but he didn't sign any checks, I did."

"What are you talking about?"

"Raubi's lawyer just so happened to be a previous lawyer at our firm, and a friend of mine. I talked to the both of them, and made the arrangement. He was really adamant about suing you, but decided against it, seeing how long the trial could take, and risking to lose the case, and money. He made it clear that it was about more than money, more so the principle. When I offered him the check, and silence, he agreed. I know it's against our policy, but I wanted to help you out, it's the least I could do."

I had a dumbfound look covering my face, while choosing the right words to say. "I am not comfortable with taking money from you, Chris."

"It's fine, Kaidyn. Consider it a friendly favor. I'm sure you would have done the same for me."

"I'll get you your money back as soon as possible, Chris." I rose from the table collecting my things in the process.

He crossed his arms behind his head, watching me steadily. "I won't take the money back. It's the least I could do."
