Between Miliah and the Feds, my back was in the corner. Feds were offering to grant me immunity if I was willing to cooperate with them about Marcus' murder. I wasn't going out like a rat, and they seemed to be pretty frustrated with my decisions. Maliah had the ball in her park, and from what I knew she was one of the best lawyers. It was a fifty-fifty chance that I would get off, but even if shit didn't work out on my end, I refused to plea out and snitch. I'd rather do my time like a man. I've already made arrangements and deposits to make sure my family was set of the trial didn't go my way. The only thing I had to do now was wait...

I watched Maliah and two other attorneys finish up paperwork in my office before concluding and heading towards the door. Walking all three out, I held her back and shut the door after saying my goodbyes to the other two. "What are you doing?" She questioned, adjusting her reading glasses and stepping back to look me over.

I've been watching her strategically work over this case for weeks, and it seemed to be looking good on my end because of her. "I just wanted to thank you for the hard work."

   Maliah

"Don't thank me yet..." I folded my arms staring up at him. He easily shadowed me by at least two feet and most of the people he stood by.  "We still have a very long way to go."

His cologne smelled so good it made me weak, but I always contained myself well enough so I that I didn't stroke is ego. Jahleel was handsome enough to woo any woman he came in contact with and judging by his demeanor, he was well aware of it. I wasn't sure if the divorce was affecting my judgment of men or if this man was that damn fine, either way I knew to keep professional distance. Jahleel has managed to lie to me about his relationship, his career, and who knew what else. Even though he was he was nice to look at, there was no further interest, and his narcissistic attitude tended to turn me off.

"Well what can I do to express my gratitude?"

"You can start by letting me go home, it's getting late." I stepped around his arm and his eyes followed me.

"Late? It's only eight... but you could always spend the night... I have a guest room waiting for you."

"I don't have slumber parties with clients.. nice try." I adjusted my coat and grabbed the door handle before he placed his hand on top of mine, stopping me again.

"It's Friday night. What are you in a rush to do? Let me get you a drink at least? One drink that's it, nothing else."

I thought the offer over. "How do you know I don't already have plans?"

"I thought the client always came first?"

I slightly laughed before folding my arms and stepping forward. "This is not McDonald's and the longer I stand here, the more you're going to pay me. Technically, I'm still on the clock as long as you're holding me hostage."

This was the most we had conversed aside from work related topics, since I took his case and it was honestly refreshing to see his sense of humor. I didn't have plans but I knew it was inappropriate to have drinks with a client.

"I'm willing to pay any price."

"Maybe another time."

He nodded his head agreeing, before getting the door for me. "Yeah another time then... I won't put any pressure on you."

I had other cases to work on, but my focus was specifically towards Jahleel's case. I found myself calling outside of normal work hours to keep him informed on anything that could work in his best interest as well as giving him advice on how he could change his tainted image before the hearing. It was a bit overwhelming at times, but I was knew I couldn't afford to let this go to trial. I dropped two other clients while pursuing a win for this particular case and it seemed to be taking more time than necessary from me.
