I turned to Ahyan, and back to Marcus, then to Ahyan again. "What the fuck is your problem? Why did you do that?"
He was rubbing his fist, to relieve the pain from the sharp blow, before speaking. "I was trying to help you?"
"You need to leave!" I warned him, just before Marcus began to regain his consciousness. Moving away, and giving him space, I watched as he rose to his feet, staggering a bit, before the incident called to his mind. I knew he was upset, so I stepped in front of him. "Don't do anything crazy, Marcus!"
I must have been invisible to him, because he brushed passed me, to get to Ahyan, without looking. "That was a bitch ass move, nigga."
"Um, excuse me Marcus. I don't mean to break up your throw down, but I can't have you tearing up my place!" Coi interfered, stepping between the two, with Sky gripping her shirt.
His eyes were focused on Ahyan only, until Sky reached for him. "Get the fuck out of here." He barked to Ahyan, who took his time opening the door. Ahyan glanced at me, shaking his head in disbelief, before speaking. "There's a domestic violence hotline number out there, if you need it." When he finally turned to exit, Marcus clenched his first, and struck the back of Ahyan's head. The loud thump sent Ahyan, crashing down to the floor, where Marcus stood over him, mumbling words I couldn't understand, before slamming the door.
"He might have a concussion! You can't leave him there!" Coi ranted, completely upset, while Marcus snatched my arm.
"Why you got people thinking I'm whooping your ass? Why you do shit like this, Chan?" He eyed me, waiting for an answer, before continuing. "You like for me to chase you, don't you? Is that what it is? You like the attention?"
"No, I don't!"
"Yes, you do! I know you do."
"Fuck you, that is not what I'm trying to do!"
"Then tell me what the fucking problem is!"
"You're fucking crazy!"
The only thing Coi was missing, was the pop corn, because she surely had a show. I rushed down the hall, entering my guest room, while he followed.
"Wouldn't you be crazy, if you were me?" He laughed sarcastically, irking my nerves. "Look at it from my point of view, Chan. You fucked some nigga you barely fucking knew, after I proposed to your stupid ass! Nigga could have had AIDS or some shit. You let the nigga fuck you without a condom, and you get pregnant... right after you had my baby. You lying about everything, taking pills and shit, lying on your friends for this nigga. I had to find out from the streets. Even then, I didn't believe the shit. When I confronted you about it, I still didn't believe it, until you told on yourself. Then you telling me he raped you, and I see the video of him fucking you, you telling him you love him." Marcus clenched his jaws, becoming upset about the entire situation over again. I only held my breath, while stepping to the far left side of the room. "The shit broke me, Chan. But I took you back anyway. I didn't know if the baby was mine, or if it was his, but I still took you back. And what do you do? Go and meet up with the nigga! Then you take my child and leave for a fucking month, thinking I'm supposed to be cool about the shit."
"She was yours, Marcus!" I could feel tears stinging at my eyes, while my throat tightened.
"Then, you lose the baby. You lose a baby for the second time, and you still can't see how fucked up you are."
"You need to watch your fucking mouth! I lost my baby, stressing over you!"
"Nah, it was you, Chan. You fucked it up for yourself. Like you always do. After I told you not to go anywhere near the nigga, you did, and you didn't tell me. We wouldn't be going through half of this shit, if you learned to open your fucking mouth!"
"Fuck you!"
"Yeah, fuck me. Okay."
"You never give me a chance to say anything! It's always your way. I made a fucking mistake, Marcus. I was stressed and I didn't know how to talk to you. I'm not perfect... Neither are you."
He left the bedroom, slamming the door shut on his way out, while I took easy breaths to prevent myself from crying.
Here I am, two hours later in the same spot. I didn't know if Marcus was still here, or if he had left. I spent my time thinking about what he said about me, wondering if he had been thinking this the entire time.
Rising from the bed, I crept through the Coi's home, somewhat hoping he had left. When I entered the living room, I noticed Coi rocking Sky in her arms, before her eyes met mine. She motioned her head to the patio, insinuated that Marcus was outside. Even though I wanted to avoid him, I knew we had to talk. Silently pushing the door open, I noticed him talking on the phone, while I took a seat next to him.
"Marcus..."
He continued with the conversation, looking straight ahead, pretending I didn't exist. "Marcus, I know you hear me!" I hissed, rising from the chair and standing in front of him, folding my arms across my chest. His cut eyes darted to me, while he blew a wind of smoke in my face, purposely. My temper got the best of me, and before you knew it, the both of us were twisted against the lounge chair. "I didn't touch you, Chan. Keep your hands to yourself, before I break them." He had the both of my arms pinned down, while I struggled to get free.
"Do you see what you're doing, Marcus?"
"You tried to hit me..."
"Look at us! Look at us, Marcus! I'm tired of this! Love and respect go hand and hand, and lately, you have none! I don't even know who you are anymore!"
He loosened his grip, rising off of me, and becoming more compassionate. "That shit I did at the club, Chan, I'll never do it again. I don't want you to be scared of me."
"It's pretty hard not to be, you fucked me up Marcus, I can't get it out of my head." I adjusted myself in the seat, looking directly at him, wondering how we amounted to this. "You have to go to anger management, Marcus. Your temper is getting worse, and I'm scared for Sky and myself."
"Cut that bullshit out, Chan."
"I watched you murder someone in front of me, because of your anger. You didn't even think about us, or the consequences. Why did you do it, Marcus?"
He exhaled from irritation. "Whether I did it at the park, or ten months from now, the nigga was gone get got, but you cut it short for him. Make that your last time asking about the nigga."
His agitated response resonated, before I spoke. "I can't do this anymore..."
Marcus waved me off, snatching her door open, and entering the home. I followed, calling his name, before reaching out to him. "I'm not happy, Marcus!"
The silence and tension between the two of us was thick, and my heart was pounding. He stared at me blankly, with anger and frustration, like he didn't understand what I was saying.
"I don't want to be with you, anymore." I stated through a cracked but truthful voice.
He ran his thumb against his nose, before nodding his head.
My stomach dropped when he slammed his fists into Coi's wall, violently and repeatedly. The loud crashes woke Sky, causing her to cry, while my sister screamed to the top of her lungs. When he finally stopped, Marcus left her home, without any words, but before, I managed to catch a glimpse of his red eyes, and noticed what looked like forming tears.
Coi continued to scream while I stood in shock, mumbling to myself. "What did I just do?"
