"We might as well move in together." Daniel joked, as I assisted him with his jacket, while he shut the door behind himself."I want to know why I haven't seen you in three days... It takes that long in the barbershop?" I smiled, stepping back while secretly admiring his hair cut.
"You know, they're planning Rock's funeral."
"How's Marcus taking it? You know Rock was like a father to him... It can't be that easy to lose someone so close."
"Everything is straight. Have you heard back from the investors about opening your business?" He quickly changed the subject, walking toward the living room, while I followed.
I took a seat on his lap, swiping the traces of hair away from his shirt, as I spoke . "Yes, I'm meeting with them this week. I know everything is going to turn out fine, I'm just a little nervous, though. I really can't believe that it's actually happening."
Just before he could respond, his cell phone began to ring. When he answered, the change in his facial expression worried me, as I tried to listen closely to the muffling of a feminine voice on the other end.
"Who's that?" I mouthed the words, while he rose from the couch.
"Okay, I'm on my way." Disconnecting the call, he turned to me and began to explain. "That was Amanda, calling from Paul's phone. She said she locked herself in the bathroom, because he's trying to kill her."
"Kill her? I'm coming with you."
Grabbing my shoes, I hurried out of my apartment, wondering what could have happened between the two.
I only noticed one car parked outside of Paul's place, when we arrived. Keeping close to Daniel, the both of us waited patiently, before Paul opened the door, greeting us nonchalantly. "What's up, baby brother?"
"Amanda called me. What's up with you?"
"She just wants some attention, you know how that is. How you doing, Kaidyn?" He shifted to me, stepping aside and allowing us to enter his home.
"Fine." I dryly responded, making my way inside, before noticing the bathroom door open quickly.
"Daniel, you have to get me away from him." She exhaled dramatically, rushing toward the both of us. "He's crazy, and I'm scared for my life!"
"What I tell you about putting people in our business?" Paul bucked, pointing and walking toward her, as she hid behind Daniel.
"You trying to go back to jail, man? What's up?" Daniel questioned, blocking Amanda, while I held her hand. She was practically trembling in fear, while Paul stood on the other side of Daniel watching her.
"He's crazy, Daniel! He doesn't care about that! Please get me out of here!"
I grabbed her wrist, leading her toward the door, to stop him from potentially hurting her. I could hear Daniel talking to his brother, but couldn't make out what he was saying, before exiting. "Why are you back with him?"
"I'm not. He's been harassing me since he's been out, and has beaten up my boyfriend Eddie twice. I don't know what to do. I can't get away from him."
