(Steve) Dead In The Water

If I was not myself

Bucky puts his gun down and steps forward to join Steve from his place near the exit door.

And you were someone else

"I had him on the ropes."

I'd say so much to you

The blonde supersoldier could just about shake his head.

And I would tell the truth

"Sure you did."

Cause I can hardly breathe

Steve turns his head the moment he hears the blast charging.

When your hands let go of me

"Get down!"

The ice is thinning out

He pulls his best friend behind him and lifts his shield to protect them, but to no avail.

And my feet brace themselves

The cannon blast not only knocks them both off their feet but a it rips a big tear in the wall of the moving train.

I'm there in the water

Steve struggles to pick himself up again, but Bucky gets to his feet and holds out his pistol and the red, white, and blue shield.

Still looking for you

He fires at the machinery.

I'm there in the water

It all happens too quickly for Steve to comprehend.

Can't you see?

Because the moment he got to his knees his best friend was being shot out of a train.

Can't you see?

Steve snatches the fallen shield and angrily throws it at the metal bot, who falls over at the force.

You've seen this all before

When Steve sees him, his heart skips a beat; but not in a good way.

A life left on the shore

"Bucky!"

We're smiling all the same

The desperate shout seems to be lost in the wind.

You sail away again

The blonde hurriedly swings his self on the outer side of the train.

I'm there in the water

He maneuvers his body whilst holding onto the railing in order to get closer to his friend.

Still looking for you

"Hang on!"

I'm there in the water

The brunet's grip on his small bar continued to slip and he wildly attempts to pull himself closer to Steve.

Can't you see?

"Grab my hand!"

Can't you see?

Despite his struggles and the fact he felt the bar creaking due to his weight, Bucky held out his hand for Steve to take, who did the same.

Oh, yeah, I'm dead (Dead in the water)

Bucky's legs violently swung in the wind.

I'm dead in the water (Still looking for you)

Then the bar broke off.

Oh, still looking for you, for you, for you (I'm dead in the water)

"No!"

Can't you see?

Steve blinked away tears, catching the desperation and fear in Bucky's eyes...

Can't you see?

James let out a heartbreaking scream, plummetting downwards.

I'm dead in the water

Steve's felt his hands slip from the ledge, but he clung on to another just in the nick of time.

Still looking for you

But... the thing that hurt Steve the most was the fact the last glance he got of his best friend was him in the distance, as a tiny circle fading away whilst screaming and thrashing in the air freely.

I'm dead in the water

Steve's mouth was agape, expression etched with a look of absolute horror.

Can't you see?

Bucky...

I'm dead in the water

He heaved heavily, holding on tightly to his own life.

Still looking for you

Bucky...

I'm dead in the water

He squeezed his eyes shut, as if that would help ease the pain he felt for his recent loss.

Can't you see?

Or maybe it was to stop the flow of tears.

Can't you see?

But nevertheless, they flowed freely down his frost-bitten cheeks.
