The solider watched in complete awe as everyone apart of Thanos' army turned to dust, even the Titan himself.
Joy surged through Steve Rogers' veins, they had done it! It was all over, the fight had ended. No more fighting for their lives -- the lives of half the universe, as well -- just because of some stupidly powerful little stones. None of that anymore, things could go back to how they once were; hopefully.
He turned, planning on finding Bucky or Tony right after. Maybe even one of the other Avengers or fighters that aided them. But when he turned he saw– no, he realized how they had won.
Tony–
He could only stand there, in shock with Thor by his side.
Tony–
...Iron Man's closest friends and family said their goodbyes -- Rhodes, Queens, Ms. Potts; while Steve couldn't bare to disrupt the moment.
But that was his friend, he should be saying farewell, too. All because of some mistakes the Captain made he- he... He couldn't go up there. No. He just could not.
Tears prickled at his eyes.
That's when Barton kneeled, bowing his head respectfully and putting a fist on his mouth, clearly in a daze about this new revelation.
Tony Stark... dead.
T'Challa and Danvers followed suit after Clint.
Quill also came down onto the ground, kneeling for a man who dared to oppose Thanos. Next came Nebula, a woman in grey armor, Scott and finally-
Steve fell to his knees.
A painful memory flashed through his head as he did so.
New York, 2012. Tony Stark in his red suit lying on the ground after the Hulk snatched his falling form from the sky and dropped him lightly on the deserted city streets.
Steve had immediately ran forward, with Thor, and dropped to his knees, looking for a sign of life in the unconscious man.
He had put his hand on that damned arc reactor.
The same type of object that the mechanic had pulled out of his chest and put in Steve's hand.
He had it in his chest now, and it had darkened. No light emitting from the device anymore.
It was clear, that now, Tony was gone.
For real this time.
