I started writing a letter to my Mum. 6 months went really quickly. I was still slightly behind on the work at school but the teachers seemed to think I'd catch up in no time. I have the assignments and lesson guides on the lessons we missed in the first 6 months of school. I guess this is what happens when you join midway through the school year.
We gained a lot of popularity. I had to decline multiple girls that had asked me on a date. I couldn't afford to be dating someone when I needed to focus on school. I didn't need Delilah spreading some rumour that I was sleeping around with every girl in the school. Those declarations of love kept coming in forms of love letters stuffed in my locker.
Søren got plenty of them too. I knew he had his eye on Andrea. Both of us did. I wasn't going to lie but I liked her. She was easy to like. She was friendly, kind, compassionate. She was everything that would be perfect in a girlfriend.
"Adrian who are you taking to prom?" asked a girl, I think her name was Amy or Brooke. I wasn't too sure with the amount of girls to come and talk to me or ask me about prom. "Prom's not really my thing but I'll be sure to let you know," I responded holding the back of my neck. This is tough being a popular person. I didn't expect tonnes of girls to be after me. It wasn't like there was a lack of boys, it just seemed like they preferred me or Søren. I guess being the new kid still hasn't worn off yet.
There was only one girl I wanted to ask to Prom and that was Andrea. Lunch time rolled around and Andrea sat opposite me and Søren with a cunning smile and a mischievous glint in her eyes. "What are you planning Andi?" asked Søren. He was chilled out as always. He was good to keep around. He was indifferent to pretty much everything including the love confessions and letters.
Andrea leaned forwards and laughed a little bit. She seemed nervous. "I don't want to be lynched by every girl in this school but how about you come to prom with me?" Andrea murmured. I didn't ever think that she would be this bold in asking someone. Still she kept her voice low as if it was a secret.
I looked around for Delilah. I thought she was going to come and ruin this moment but I couldn't find her anywhere. She was lying low during all of this and was probably trying to plan someone. I couldn't care less as long as she didn't hurt Andrea like I presume she was doing before we came into the picture. I'm surprised Andrea didn't tell Anders about this problem.
"Both of us?" asked Søren glancing at me from the corner of his eye. Andrea nodded and reached across the table to grasp our hands in hers. They were smaller than mine and soft. I gave her hand a small squeeze. "Yeah, I mean you're both my best friends and I can't pick between you both." she said timidly.
The smile on her face was dazzling. She was so pretty. Delilah's probably jealous. That's why she picks on Andrea. I prefer blondes anyway. "Sure, you're ours," Søren said, his voice dropping to a low murmur. It was almost suggestive in a way. Andrea was ours in a way. She was always there for us. Helping us if we didn't understand the homework or making sure we were fed.
"Yeah, I don't see a problem with it," I agreed with Søren. It would be fun and less awkward than going with some girl I barely knew. Before we knew it lessons seemed to fly passed, a few more assignments to put on top of the pile of ones we already had. "Wanna go suit shopping?" asked Søren, his hands were stuffed inside of his uniform trousers.
I nodded hoisting my bag over my shoulder. "Might as well, prom is on Saturday," I grumbled. Today was going fine until I caught wind of someone telling another person that Delilah was going to ask me or if I was going to ask Delilah. They seemed to have a weird respect for Delilah even though she was just as sharp tongued to everyone she came across.
If it were up to me, I would happily decline her in front of the whole school. At least then everyone would get the hint that I didn't even like her. We went to a store not far from school. We went home first to change and then Anders said he'd tag along. "How come you need a suit?" I asked.
"Last year at school for me. They decided last minute to make me an ambassador. The people in my year are having their prom straight after yours just to make things a little easier for the prom committee." Anders explained while we were walking. It wasn't long before we set foot in this store full of suits, blazers, shirts, undercoats. Just seemed way too fancy for my liking.
Søren nudged me with his arm. "You seem uncomfortable," he remarked bluntly. I took a deep breath and sighed.
"Let's just say I've never owned a suit, never even looked in the direction of one and it's a bit overwhelming. I'm just getting used to the school uniform," I threw in a joke to make Søren worry a bit less. Anders just patted me on the shoulder.
"I get it, first time shopping for one is always scary. Trust me by the time you're my age or even mid twenties, you'll have about 3 all for different occasions." Anders mused before going off to find one. I walked around the store, hopelessly looking for one. I watched as Søren and Anders picked up their things.
How was suit shopping this hard? Surely it was going to be easier if I knew what Andrea was going to be wearing. At least then I could try and find something to match or to compliment her dress. "Try this," Anders murmured holding out a fully black set to me. I went to try it on and I walked out to see if they agreed that it was halfway decent.
"The girls are going to go crazy with you looking like that," Anders hollered. Søren gave his own appreciative look after looking me up and down. Really. I didn't think I looked that good and the suit felt uncomfortable compared to what I'm used to wearing. We finished up buying the suits and then went back home.
The smell of food wafted to our noses as soon as we entered the house. "Glad you boys are back. Just in time for dinner," cooed Andrea putting plates down on the table. I took my place at the table, discarding the suit onto one of the couches. I felt relief as I started eating the food.
I didn't realise how hungry I had become until I smelled the food.
