We kept both our engagement and the pregnancy to ourselves until the first scan. I wanted to relish in the feeling of love. We told Naomi first who wouldn't stop chanting about getting a Mummy. We hadn't told her about us having a baby yet. We wanted to wait for everyone's reactions. The hardest part was not saying anything to Mum. Whenever I saw her, she'd ask why she hasn't seen Nat recently.
"Are you ready?" I asked Nat. I rubbed my thumb across the back of her hand for comfort. She seemed nervous. Something I hadn't seen from her since introducing her to my family. All I got in response was a nod. "Okay then, let's go," I remarked reversing out of the driveway. We drove to my Mum to which Nat's Dad would also be waiting.
"Adrian, what is this?" asked Mum when we were finally walking into the garden. Everyone was gathered there with confusion evident on their faces. "Hi everyone," I spoke. Nat said her hellos and gave Mum and Evan, her dad and Jess a bag. "I know this was sudden after not seeing you for a couple of weeks but Nat and I would like to let you in on our secrets." I said.
Nat grinned. "If you would like to look in your bags, it will tell you one of our secrets." Nat spoke. I could tell she was excited on their behalf. She looked really cute all bouncy and full of excitement.
Mum was first to move. She rustled around the bag and then pulled out a card. As she opened it, Evan pulled out the onesie we had put in there. "Oh! Adrian!" Mum cooed rushing over to hug us. Evan sat in shock. "Congratulations you two," Jess said coming over to hug us as well. Nat's Dad started crying and uttering something about his first grandchild.
The kids were bouncing around with their new titles of Aunt and Uncle. Naomi came and talked to Nat's belly. It was the most excitement I've seen all year aside from Christmases. "Wait! We have one more secret to tell you," I said shushing them. Nat's Dad secretly winked at me being the only one other than Nat and I to know of our engagement.
"What is it Adrian?" asked Jess. Impatient as always. "So not only are we going to be having a new member of the family, I would like to announce that..." I trailed off looking at Nat. I felt her hand entwine with my own. "Get on with it!" Jess muttered. I laughed. It was mainly her I was making wait.
"Natasha and I are getting married!" I cheered. Jess looked so happy and smug. She pulled me aside later that evening, after Mum stole away Nat to talk, to tell me something. Jess playfully punched me in the arm.
"I told you so little brother. I told you one day I'll plan your wedding," she spoke giddily. I rubbed the back of my neck. If it wasn't for Jess I wouldn't of met Nat in the first place. Well, I wouldn't of gotten a date with her that's for sure.
I looked at Jess who hadn't stopped smiling since earlier this evening. "What about you and your man?" I asked. I wanted to know if she had any news. Jess shook her head. "Still trying to find a house. Don't think we'll being getting hitched any time soon." she murmured. "Besides, you looked like you wanted to say something else," she changed the subject.
"You don't have to do anything for me and Nat. We appreciate it but you should take a break from planning weddings." I urged. Jess held her hands up and shook her head. "Look little brother, it's the least I could do, you've already got a lot on your plate with Naomi and expecting a new baby. I just want to help out." she spoke giving me a hug. I hugged back, thanking her. It will be a good bonding experience for her and Nat anyway.
Now all the people that's left to tell is Andrea and Søren. I'll also have to track down Nat's brother in an attempt to convince him to come home. We got home late that night and so I sat down attempting to face time with Andrea or Søren. I watched as the screen slowly went from black to showing Søren's face. "Adrian!" he greeted in a somewhat cheer. I heard him walking or rather borderline running to get Andrea.
He spun around once he reached her and showed me where they were living. "I like the house," I mused. Andrea snatched the phone. I laughed, how typical of them. "Adrian, Nat! How are you?" Andrea cooed. I watched as Søren shimmied himself next to Andrea so he could be on camera too. "We're fine, we're actually calling to tell you guys something." Nat spoke. She beat me to it.
"Yeah?" asked Søren looking mischievous. I rolled my eyes. "We're expecting and we're getting married." I announced. Andrea looked so happy. Søren also looked happy but he looked like he wanted to say something. I think I know exactly what that was.
"No, I did not ask her to marry me after getting her pregnant. She told me after I asked." I explained. Søren looked relieved after I said that. I know they're still wary of history repeating itself a second time but I don't think that'll happen ever again.
We stayed on call for another hour or so before Nat went to bed. "Look guys, there's something you can help me do," I remarked hoping that Nat wouldn't be able to hear me. My friends nodded obviously ready to help me out with anything I asked. "I need you to help me find Nat's brother. He went to Europe years ago and never came home so I'm trying to look for him." I spoke.
"So you can surprise Nat? That's so sweet!" Andrea cooed. I gave them his name and I hoped that by some bizarre connection that he's either one of their friends or someone that they work with.
"Yeah sure bud, we'll keep an eye out. Speak to you soon." Søren ended the call and I looked at the time. It was way past when I usually slept but that's fine. I walked into mine and Nat's room, changed out of my clothes and pulled her close to me. For once in my life, I couldn't wait for the rest of it.
