It's Saturday already. I went to go out of my room but I paused. I could hear a voice. "Help me pick an outfit!" Delilah so sickeningly cooed. I guess she was roping Andrea in on something again. It just seems that recently that's all she was doing. She was being really nice to Andrea even though she barley hung out with her.
I rolled my eyes and waited for the shutting of a door before I made my way to the bathroom. I guess I'll have no choice but to stay out of Delilah's way. I walked out of the bathroom and bumped into someone. I steadied them before I could fall. I looked down and saw Andrea. She was blushing. "I'm sorry," I murmured rubbing the back of my neck. How awkward.
"It's okay Adrian," she responded before hurrying into her room. I took a glance at Delilah's room. She had the door open a crack. I shouldn't ask. I don't want to impede on whatever she was doing or planning. She would probably end up shouting at me and throwing one of her zillion pairs of shoes at me.
Walking into my room, I got dressed and headed downstairs. "Morning Adrian!" greeted Anders. I nodded in response with a mumbled morning before grabbing myself a bowl of cereal. "Excited?" he asked me. I nodded. "I guess you could say that. Do they do these every year?" I asked. He thought for a moment and counted on his hands. "Prom is at the end of the year but they pretty much use any occasion to put on a dance or some musical or something or other," he responded.
I sighed. Great. I'm not enthralled with dances. Especially if that means I'll be getting more dance invites from random girls. "They're not mandatory Adrian," Anders joked. I smiled. "I know. I just don't like the endless invites from girls," I responded. He laughed. It was always nice to see him happy. It's just like Andrea said, her brother really was just one happy dude.
"I heard, you were the heart throb of the school. It's nice not having them fawn over me all the time," he said. I was a bit surprised. No one really seemed to mention Anders. I know the boys of the school were interested in Andrea. Some were interested in Delilah but I don't know how they could be. I guess if it's just about looks then I guess Delilah's a little bit pretty. She's still not my type.
"Anders!" called Andrea from the other room. Anders walked out asking me to keep an eye on his cooking. I heard the conversation from the other room. Something about Delilah taking Andrea to a spa. I scoffed. It really seemed like Delilah was buttering her up for something. I shook my head. My Mum always told me not to judge someone. Especially if they're turning their life around.
The day seemed to pass at a snails rate. It was boring just waiting around for some boring dance thing. It's not like it even really matters in the hindsight of things. I'll end up graduating here and then those dances wouldn't really matter. Playing make believe King and Queen doesn't matter. Not when I had bigger things to worry about. "You alright?" asked Søren as he stood in the doorway of my room. I nodded.
"Just worried about home is all," I muttered. There was no use in trying to fool Søren. It was like he saw through me. Same with Andrea. The two of them just seemed to know when something was wrong. He walked in and sat next to me. "I'm sure they're fine Adrian. They probably just miss you and I doubt your Dad is going to do anything," Søren remarked. He gave me a small, caring smile. It eased my nerves a small bit.
It still worried me that I hadn't received a letter in months. "Time to get dressed kiddos!" called out Anders as he ran up stairs. "You heard the man," Søren muttered and gave me a hit to the arm. He gave me one last look to assure I was fine before running off to his room. I looked at the black suit draped over the back of the desk chair. I guess it's now or never. I changed into the suit and looked at myself in the mirror.
I thought it looked pretty good. It still felt a little uncomfortable though. I ended up sitting with the boys and waiting for the girls to finish up. Delilah came down first and started bitching about how the hair dresser messed up her highlights. No one can even tell if it's messed up or not. Then Andrea came down. It felt like slow motion. She looked so beautiful. The dress suited her perfectly. "Come on, take some pictures so we can show Mor," Anders spoke. He looked proud.
We posed for some photos and Anders promised to print them off to give to me and Søren too. He knows how much a Mother would beg to get photos of their babies all dressed up. "Let's get going then," he said walking out the front door. We followed after him and got in the car. It wasn't long until we were entering the school into the nicely decorated hall.
We danced, we sang, we ate. To be honest I was having fun. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. "Now's the time we've all be waiting for." announced one of the staff. They looked way to happy about what was going to happen. Two people walked to the left of the teacher and held out two pillows. On top of those pillows were two gilded crowns.
I looked around the crowd. I couldn't see Delilah anywhere. "Can we get a drum roll please." said whatever her name is. I really didn't know who this teacher was. She was probably one who taught the upper years. "Home coming King is Adrian Lawson," she announced. I felt my heart race as I walked out of the crowd towards the stage.
I bent down so that one of the girls could put the crown on my head. I really didn't expect it to be me. It could've been anyone but me. Søren could've been a contender or one of the other boys in our year. "Home coming Queen is Andrea Densen." she said. I heard her utter Andrea's name and before I knew it, she was joining me on stage.
In the back of the room, I saw Delilah come in and stand at the back. I heard the laughter before I even turned to look. When I did, I wanted to scream at everyone to shut up or stop looking. Andrea was drenched head to toe in what looked like blood. It stained her dress and hair. She ran off stage and people in the crowd even parted to let her passed. I started to go after her until Søren grabbed my arm.
"She needs time alone right now, we'll comfort her after we find Anders," he spoke. I nodded. That sounded better than what I was going to do. We split up trying to find Anders. We ended up finding him and went home. None of us looked at Andrea and none of us spoke of what happened. It just felt like it wasn't real. This couldn't of just happened. Why her? Why couldn't it have been anyone else?
