I sat with Andrea in the cafeteria when a group of girls came up to us. "We want to tell you something," one of the admitted sheepishly. Andrea stepped off to the side and whispered with them. Her face contorted with anger. I watched as she started to walk towards the exit. I hurried after her. Where was she going? She seemed to be looking for someone.
Delilah walked over to Andrea and I managed to step in between them before anything could happen. "Adrian, step aside," Andrea stated. She sounded angry. I moved to the side of her and the two of them just stared at each other for minutes on end. But with every moment passing, Delilah got more and more nervous. Was she hiding something? Did Delilah have something to say?
"Well, have you got something to say?" Andrea asked. Delilah mumbled something. I didn't quite hear what it was. Andrea cupped her ear. "I'm sorry," I heard Delilah say. It was quiet and if you weren't listening properly you would've missed it.
"I'm sorry? Is that all you can say?" Andrea mocked Delilah. This is new and I'm not complaining. Delilah had it coming to her.
"You caused this to happen. You and your toxic friend. You probably planned this. I knew you were using me to get to Adrian."
I listened as Andrea spoke. Each word was filled with anger that I knew had been building up for years. Andrea was tolerant but that doesn't mean she didn't get annoyed at what people did or what people said. Delilah looked like she was thinking. There was definitely a guilty look on her face as she cradled her baby bump. She used Andrea to get to me? Delilah didn't even show that she liked me until New York. All this time while I was teasing her as a friend, she took it personal and she liked it? Using another person to get to me, especially one that was so close?
"I didn't intend to hurt you. I wanted to be popular sure but I didn't ever mean to hurt you. Can we start over? I wanna be friends with you honest." Delilah retorted.
Delilah was pleading. She was begging to have us as friends. There was too much damage for her to just start over with us. She bullied us for being foreign while she herself was in an international school. She bullied us for what we did even though we did normal things. I didn't understand what she's got against us. I didn't want to start over with her. I don't think Andrea did either.
"After all these years and you want to be friends." Andrea's words were sarcastic. Delilah flinched as she heard every single one of them. I couldn't blame her. There was a brief pause of silence before Andrea spoke again, this time to ask a question of her own, "Do you realise how much pain you've caused Adrian and me all of these years?"
Again Delilah opened her mouth to speak but then closed it a second later because she had nothing to say. Delilah seemed to be conflicted. Her expressions were changing dramatically and then she looked up at Andrea, a scowl back on her face. There's the Delilah I knew. "I haven't hurt Adrian in the slightest," Delilah snapped.
Bullshit. Delilah you have hurt me. You forced me into parenthood. You tormented me about being a man-whore because I had girls that were friends. You accused me of being my Dad after I told you what he did. You accused me of cheating even though I didn't belong to you. I was about to say something myself but what happened in front of me left me too shocked for words.
Gentle, kind, sweet Andrea just slapped Delilah. Gasps erupted from passerby students who had stopped to witness the fight between two popular girls. The gasps turned to whispers of disbelief. They couldn't believe what happened either.
"Are you sure? A little birdie told me that you made not one but two bets with your little gang of girls," Andrea all but snarled. I looked at Andrea. Is that what those girls told you back in the cafeteria? Is that why you're so mad? Delilah made bets? A bet to sleep with me? A bet to date me? A bet to get me to fall in love with her? A bet that I could get her pregnant? So many thoughts went through my head. What did she bet on?
