After dinner, we wait for Iris at the patio, as Niles and Elle are getting ready to head back to Myriad. She engulfs me and Lucas in a tight hug, with her teary eyes before they left. I glance over at Lucas and laugh at him when I saw his face.
"It's not that far. We can go visit them."
I try to assure him.
"What? Who cares? I'm sick of her."
He replies nonchalantly. Thus, making me laugh as we sit back on the comfy couch. I rest my head on his shoulder, and he immediately kisses my forehead.
I tangle our hands together, enjoying his touch and the warmth that radiates off his body. One of my many favorite things in this world. I smile to myself, loving this moment. I wish this moment stays forever.
After a few minutes of waiting, I notice Iris is walking to us, and I instantly feel Lucas's body stiffen next to me. I brush his arm in slow motion in hoping to calm him down.
She sits on the single couch opposite to us and there's this awkward silent between us that is too loud for my liking.
"Explain to us why you are here."
Lucas speaks icily to her and I can almost see Iris uncomfortable posture.
"No need to put your guard up because clearly I'm not the bad guy here."
She starts, raising both her hands arm in the air and sigh as her arms went down.
"Rose is my sister."
She adds and stare at the both of us.
"Kai's mate?"
I ask her, feeling a little shock when I notice Lucas does not try to ask her back probably thinking hard.
"Yes. He killed my sister. And so, I came here because I found out that he's coming for you."
She point her index finger to me as I eye her up and down.
"You're human."
Lucas finally speaks and Iris chuckle lowly.
"That, I do, but my sister, Rose is not. She's a vamp alright. My mother is a vamp but not my father and that explains me."
She replies and smile at me, to which I smile back.
"In Myriad, Kai and Rose is pretty famous for their scientific inventions. I sometimes help them whenever I'm there but I mostly live a mundane life here in the human world."
"Kai is so obsessed with upgrading things or weapons to make it better, more dangerous and more powerful. They even created something before he killed my sister and disappear."
She continues.
"I got a tip that he's coming here to kill you, Alyssa and to hurt you, Lucas."
She points her finger at me then Lucas.
"So that's why I'm here."
She stops explaining and smile.
"Why should we trust you?"
Lucas shot at her while staring deadly with his yellow ring eyes.
"Why shouldn't you?"
She replies.
"Look, I know that you are wary of me. All the people here are but we've been friends since we were kids Lucas."
She adds.
"But then you disappear."
Lucas reply immediately.
"Yes. That's because I just found out that I'm the only human in my family and I have to go back to Myriad. Do you know how scary that is?"
She tries to reason.
"Okay, I understand you're being cautious but you can ask Dario about me."
She end her talk with that.
"We will."
He replies shortly.
After a moment of awkward silence, she takes her leave and left us there. I let out a long sigh when she's gone, closing my eyes to release all the tension that been weighing on me.
Lucas lift up my hand and kiss at the back of it. I quickly peck him on his cheek and he chuckles at me.
"What do you think?"
He asks me as he brush off my hair away from my face.
"I think that whatever it is we will be fine because we are together."
I say to him as I watch his beautiful face closely.
"Of course everything will be fine."
He talks back to me, and I smile.
"Because you have me."
He laughs as he pulls me closer to him.
"Don't be too cocky."
I reply and snuggles even deeper into his embrace.
"Tired?"
He asks me while playing with my hair.
"Uh-hm."
I mumble to him as I feel too lazy to move myself off him.
"Can't move?"
He asks again to which I just shake my head. Instantly, I feel myself being lift up and I couldn't even bother to open my eyes.
A wave of exhaustion just swept through me making me yawn. After a few minutes of being carried, I feel myself land on a soft bed and I know it's our room.
I feel the bed dip next to me and I reduce the distance between us without opening my eyes and he cuddles me. Kissing my temple softly, he wishes me goodnight.
