Chapter 23

I recognize the name somewhere, but I couldn't pinpoint where I heard the name before. Seeing the way Lucas reacts to the name, she must be important to him.

"Iris Gafner, his childhood friend."
Out of nowhere, Elle speaks behind me, making me jolt. Turning my head to face her, I see Ryan has arrived as well. I am sure that Lucas has mind link them prior to when we saw the silhouettes.

Iris Gafner, his human childhood friend. A few weeks ago, Lucas had hunt down the person who is responsible for her death. Right. She's dead. So why is she here standing in front of us and might I add looking alive than ever with her radiant pale smooth skin? Not only that, they smell different too.

Vampire.
Esma reveal to me and my eyes go wide. It's true then, about them existing. I have never seen them before, only in the books I borrow from Elle. Lucas must have sensed the three vampires in front of us too as his hold on me tightens and my arm start to ache.

When he senses my hurt, he immediately releases my arm but still holding on to it, not letting me out of his side and I am still standing behind him.

"We mean no harm, Lucas."
Iris states to Lucas affirming that they are not here to fight.

"But you're dead."
Lucas inquire and I shiver with his icy demeanor.

"It's a complicated thing. We need to talk."
Iris suggest but Lucas is not convinced by her act.

"Talk here."
Lucas reply shortly not wanting to exaggerate this matter. I can feel that he is exhausted from all the things we did today but here we are, having to deal with yet another drama.

"Okay, this is Dario."
She introduces the guy standing next to her left side with blond hair and a pair of green eyes.

"And this is Niles."
She continues while pointing to her right side, to the black hair guy with a pair of red eyes. Red eyes? That's bizarre. One thing I know, Niles is definitely a vampire.

Lucas stand there observing them, one by one to find somewhat anything to know about their existence but nothing.

"I'm going straight to the point."
She continues.

"Dario here, he turned me into a vampire when I was dying. I'm his beloved."
She explains while pointing to Dario. Beloved?

Like us but we call it mates.
Esma clarifies to me.

Okay, tell me why you know everything but not me.
I scold her feeling left behind.

Shh, you're a newbie.
She reply and proceed to ignore me. Now that I'm thinking about it, one of Elle's book that I read, they mentioned about a soulmate but sometimes they call it beloved.

It is pretty much the same but vampires, their beloved will rarely be a human or other species. Purebreed vampire or what they call the royal is the strongest vampire of all time. Now, I don't know about the sun and the garlic part. Remind me again to ask them when they come to get Iris back.

"What about him?"
Elle suddenly ask while pointing to Niles.

"He's my friend who just tags along when he knows that I'm coming here with Dario."
Iris explains again.

"Are you here to suck our blood or something?"
It's Ryan who suddenly speak that catches us off guard.

"Nah, yours's stink."
Niles who had been quiet from the beginning, respond to Ryan.

"But blood like yours? Sure do."
Niles continue as he walks to Elle, bringing up her chin using his index finger. Seeing this, Lucas growl to Niles and he immediately release Elle and walk back to Iris.

"Jax's dead."
Lucas inform but more like to Iris herself. Jax, the former warrior of his and past lover of Iris. Jax is the one who is responsible for her 'death' and Lucas killed him few weeks ago.

Iris said nothing but only nods her head. After a few minutes of clarifying things, Lucas finally relax. Dario and Niles leaves while Iris will stay here for a few days to sort everything out. Maybe Lucas needs his closure with Iris.

He must be confused with all the things that happened and right now is not the time to sort everything out. My feet is killing me with these heels. Ryan and Elle has left with Iris for the night while I'm busy taking the heels off.

"Why didn't you let me carry you? Your feet's hurting."
Lucas whine as he cross his arm at me, not liking my refusal of him carrying me.

"It didn't hurt before."
I mumble lowly. Not long after that, I feel he pick me up and carries me bridal style and I speedily wrap my arms around his neck while holding the heels.

"You should've listen to me."
I roll my eyes at his words and lean my head on his chest. He carries me upstairs and put me down on the bed.

After putting my heels down, I take my makeup off my face while Lucas stretch his muscle to release all off the stiffness. I slip off my dress and place it on the couch feeling lazy and step into the bathroom to shower and clean myself off the sweats.

When I am finish, Lucas went in and I wear his enormous shirt with my panties on and slip under the duvet, stretching my limbs out and get comfortable.

My eyes start to feel heavy when Lucas get out of the shower with his towel wrap low on his hips, revealing his v-line. I gulp slowly taking in the masterpiece in front of me with wide eyes.

"Come here."
He instructs me using his index and middle finger. My body move on its own as I get up from the bed ambling towards him.

His wet hair is making me hard to resist the seduction I'm feeling from him. His icy fingers touch my neck and he close our distance, taking a deep breath of my scent and I squeeze my thighs from such a simple action. While holding my neck, his thumb moves to my plump lips pressing it ever so slightly.

"You're going to listen to me, understand?"
His gravelly voice send sparks down to my core and I spontaneously bit my lips liking this side of him as I nod.

"Strip."
