Chapter 9

Lucas Raymon's POV

My poor little mate. I should have known to cancel the meeting at Blacktail Pack because she looks so unwell. Blacktail Pack is our ally, we have been on a pact since forever. I went there because they need our help with their rouge cases.

I mentally slap myself for being such a poor mate to Alyssa. I am so frustrated with myself as I quickly carry her to the infirmary. When we reached there, Alyssa was rush into the emergency and I was refrained here because I threatened the doctor saying I would kill him if he hurt my mate.

"What happen?"
I ask Ryan when he walks towards me after I ordered him to find out what happen when Alyssa fainted. I am trying to contain my frustration and anger. My voice come out calm as I thought I would never be but my eyes wander around to find any comfort.

"From what I found, Alyssa has not been feeling well this week."
Ryan inform me. I close my eyes as I take a deep breath to control my wolf who desperately trying to take over.

When I was at Blacktail Pack, I knew I should have gone back to her. I have this gut feeling telling me something is wrong but I ignore it. Alyssa never tells me anything and I don't want to bother her or assume anything worse.

"On Wednesday, Luna cancel the lunch meeting as well and I found out she fall in the kitchen."
He adds shortly.

I abruptly punch the wall, leaving a hole in it. Ryan have seen this side of me and of course he is not surprise anymore. My nails start to change to my black claw and I am breathing heavily trying so hard to not lose control by closing my eyes.

"And I found that, Jen was mostly with her."
That's all my wolf's need. A name to kill. My eyes shot open and I all see is red. My canines are protruding from my mouth and all my veins are seen through my skin.

"Lucas?"
A voice call out from behind me and I tilt my head back taking a deep breath when I feel her small palm on my broad back. I instantly calm down by her touch as my eyes close by itself. I turned myself around and quickly hug her, breathing in her scent.

Alyssa hugs me back and my nails and canines slowly retreat as my wolf feels calm.

"Baby, why are you here? You should rest."
I speak after a few minutes of hugging each other. I carefully carry her bridal style back to the bed.

I gently place her on the bed and sit next to her wrapping my arms tightly around her waist. Out of nowhere, I hear sobs from her and I look down to see her cry. I quickly wipe here tears away and my heart clench to see her cry.

"I'm here. I'm here."
I soothe her and kiss her forehead slowly.

"I miss you ."
She tightens her hug and sob harder. Hearing her cry makes me shatter into a million pieces. Oh, my heart.

"I'm here baby. It's okay. Everything is going to be alright."
I kiss her forehead tenderly just as I rub her back and kiss her endlessly.

"I will protect you Alyssa."
I assure her. More to assure myself. I will never repeat the same mistakes again. After a while, she fall asleep in my arms. Her face is stained with tears and I slowly rub the tears away from her beautiful face. The doctor put on iv on her hands to supply some medicine into her body.

She looks so fragile, and I hate it. One thing I am sure about is I can sense her wolf is getting stronger time by time but maybe this will slow down her wolf again. I slide my arms from her and grab the blanket to cover her up. My eyes shot at her lower arm.

Cuts?

Ryan words went through my mind. Alyssa fall in the kitchen. The cuts are almost heal now but for Alyssa, without her wolf, she will take longer to heal than the normal wolf. I peck her forehead and leave her to rest. I storm out of the infirmary and quickly go to my office.

Jen, my office, now.

I mind link her. She need to explain everything to me and I'm hoping my wolf will behave this time. I reach my office and went to my small bar. I pour down my whiskey into the glass and gulp down the entire liquid. I feel it burn down my throat as I sit down on my chair. Minutes later, I heard a slow knock on my door.

"Come in."
I speak and see her hesitantly walking to me.

"Sit."
She follow my order instantly.

"Now tell me what happen. From the start."
I demand as I see her fidgeting with her fingers. My eyes shine a bright golden color and it scares her. She immediately look to the ground.

"On Monday, she taught me how to cook beef steak for lunch meeting."
Her voice is shaking as I look at her eyes with my intense glare.

"I was preparing the food on the table when I heard a shattered sound. When I came to look for her in the kitchen, she had fallen and cuts her arms."
She explains hastily as my grip on the glass tightens.

"Why didn't you report it?"
I question her as her head shot up looking at me with her eyes wide open.

Oh?

"Luna was saying she is okay and I don't want to bother her."
She reply instantly, looking down again. I feel like she is hiding something but I don't know what.

"Is there anything else you want to tell me?"
My curiosity got the best in me. I cock my eyebrow to her and she immediately shake her head. So she choose not to tell me. I see how it is.

"Dismiss."
I wave her out and she practically run to the door. My mind wander off to Alyssa as I gulp down another shot of whiskey.

Keep an eye on Jen

I mind link Ryan and sigh as I remember things that happened today.

A knock wake me up from my sleep. I must have fall asleep when I'm thinking about this matter. I slowly lift my head up and my neck hurts. Remind me again to not sleep on the chair.

"Come in."
My voice come out hoarse. Noah come into my office, slightly bow his head. Noah Felch, one of my best warrior but now I have reassigned him to guard this house and Alyssa.

"Alpha, Dr. Jared needs to see you at his office."
Noah speaks as I slowly get up from the chair, stretching my body from the stiffness of sleeping on the chair. I mumble a thank you to him and he left. I dash out of my office heading towards the infirmary and find Jared in his office.

"What's wrong? What happen? Is she okay?"
My curiosity wins over me as I slam the door open feeling a bit scared of my mate.

"Calm down Alpha. She's fine."
He assure me and I feel a bit relieve when he said that. I sit in front of him and he immediately wear his glasses to read the papers on his hands.

Jared have been with us for as long as I can remember. He is now an old man with strays of white hair along a few strands of his hair. He's an expert in his field and we trust him.

"From what I examine, Luna is having her moments."
Jared inform to me while his eyes still focusing on the white papers of scribbles that no one can read.

"Her wolf is growing, so that's why she collapsed."
I know about that. I can feel her wolf growing stronger bit by bit.

"So she collapsed because of her wolf? Nothing else?"
I question him worriedly.

"Yes Alpha but don't worry. She will be fine but she need a lot of rest. As her mate, you are vital for her wolf. Please be with her at all times."
Jared inform and I just nod agreeing with his words.

"You don't have to remind me. I will definitely make sure of that."
I reply as I get up from the chair ready to leave feeling this conversation is about to end.

"One more thing Alpha,"
Jared called to me, and I turn around to look at him.

"She's pregnant."
