to say reese was nervous would be an understatement. even with all the nice people in the school, she was still a nervous wreck.
it was now lunch time, reese decided to skip out on lunch and while era sat with her cheer team at one of the tables.
reese felt someone slip their arm around her own and pull her. "come sit with us."
it was billie. she's very touchy.
reese tried not to show how uncomfortable she was with billie touch on her as she pulled her towards the lunch table.
"guys, this is reese, reese, this is drew and zoe."
"hey guys." reese waved and the two other girls waved at her.
"so have you met any bitches yet?" zoe asked only to be scolded by billie.
"hey, that's not nice."
zoe rolled her eyes, glancing at a smirking drew before the two turned to reese. "careful with billie, she's a strong believer of almighty jesus, yeah she's that kind of christian."
reese nodded slowly, "don't try to make me sound like some jesus psycho. i'm sorry that i read the bible because i don't wanna go to hell."
'oh, fuck what did i get myself into?' reese thought to herself. she glanced at billie who just sent her a quick smile before bickering with her friends.
"so... we really don't get new kids in the middle of the school year? did you move here or something?" drew asked reese after they all settled down.
"what? it's not the middle of year, the first day was just three weeks ago."
"still."
"oh, no. i'm from seattle, born and raised, well kind of raised, doesn't matter though."
"well consider us your crew for the rest of time here, vera's probably gonna be with her cheer team most of the time."
"yeah, thanks."
"now can we talk about how cute your curls are?" billie changed the topic, her elbow on the table, her cheek in her hand as she reached over for reese's hair.
reese was already used to people mentioning her hair, especially the factor of it, she was actually surprised that no one had mentioned anything this far into the day.
her hair was a rich brown which sat in curls just below her ears. "yeah, how'd you get it so curly?"
"um, not sure, it's just always been curly, i guess."
"it suits you really well. but do you wanna come to study hall after school?"
"uh, i actually can't. i'm sorry i have to be somewhere after."
"that's fine, we can try next time."
-
"so how was the first day, love?" carina asked when reese got into the passenger seat.
"it actually wasn't that bad." reese grinned. "i told you it wouldn't be. i'm so proud of you. maya would've came with but got caught up with something at the station."
"she's a firefighter, right?"
"yeah... she doesn't come back home until like the middle of the nights sometimes. so most of the times, it'll be us two, that's fine, right?"
"of course. thanks again for everything you've done for me. i really appreciate it."
"it's no problem, love. you don't have to thank us though-"
"hey reese!" billie came jogging to the car. "you forgot your book in class." Billie handed her the book through the window.
"oh, thanks. this is ca- my mom."
'she's doing all this for me, might as well call her my mom.'
"hi mama cooper, that's your last name right?" billie locked her blue eyes with reese's hazel ones, while reese nodded.
"actually it's mama deluca, but hi, how are you?"
"i'm fine, thanks for asking, just giving this to your daughter. speaking of, reese, should we exchange numbers, just in case you change your mind about that study hall?"
"sure? here." the two quickly took each other's numbers and parted ways. it wasn't until carina and reese arrived home when the older woman mentioned the encounter.
"so... what's her name?" carina asked once she slipped off of her shoes.
"it's billie, she's pretty nice, her friends are too."
"mhm." carina smirked, causing reese to roll her eyes when she saw.
"it isn't like that at all, i just met her." reese dismissed the topic.
"okay, we don't have to talk about her, but let's speak on the fact you addressed me as your mom already."
"i mean aren't you? i'm in your house, you're feeding me."
"yes, that's true, but if you're not ready, don't feel forced to."
"i feel fine about it."
the next few hours consisted of a thirty minute nap for reese and the two working on her homework and making dinner all before maya came home.
"hey ladies." maya spoke once she shut the door.
"hey baby, how was your day?" carina made her way to maya to kiss her on her cheek.
"it was good as usual. how was your first day, reese?"
"she got a cute girl's number." carina wiggled her brows. "she's dragging it out." reese rolled her eyes playfully.
"no, i'm not being dramatic this time. she had the eyes for her, she gave her number to hang out sometime."
"oh really," maya smiled. "what's her name?"
"no, nope. you guys are turning this into something else."
"okay, let's at least know her name, that seems fair."
"it's billie." carina spilled immediately. "carina!"
"what!? come on, maya. they would be so cute."
"can i meet her?" maya grinned. "no! you're gonna embarrass me, stay away."
maya gave up and soon the three were conversing and full of laughs when reese cleared her throat.
"so, i actually have a pretty serious, well not so serious, question." reese mentioned.
"sure, what is it, my love?"
"i saw that the school's having soccer tryouts for the girl's team. it's tomorrow. i was wondering if i could possibly try out?"
carina put her fork down, "i had no idea that you were interested in soccer."
"yeah, there was this guy at the shelter, he was a soccer player and he basically taught me everything i know about the sport. he passed though, cancer."
"i'm sorry about that," maya frowned. "if you want to, you can. do you want us there or?"
"oh no, i'll just call you guys once i'm done."
"alright, that's fine with us. good luck, okay?"
"thanks." reese smiled, her phone pinged making the two older women glance at it and smirk at each other.
"what?" reese raised her eyebrows.
"nothing, just someone named billie texted you 'hi' with some heart eyes." maya teased.
