hey, i lost you back there, im home, let me know if you got home safe.

billie tucked her phone back into her purse as she unlocked her house door. she stepped in and closed the door behind her, dropping her book bag on to the side.

she walked further and was taken a bit by surprise when she spotted her parents sitting at the dining table, sullen looking.

"hey," she spoke awkwardly and ran her fingers through her hair. "you guys okay?"

her mom didn't respond and just sniffled quietly, before looking away. "no, billie, everything is not okay, please, sit down."

billie obeyed him and pulled out her normal chair and sat down facing the two. "well, what's going on?"

"it's about your brother," patrick started and billie's heart instantly dropped to her stomach. "i'm afraid he won't be staying with us anymore."

"what— what do you mean?" billie shook her head. "something happened with him and claudia—"

"you mean you found out she's pregnant?" billie scoffed. patrick and maggie exchanged a look of despair before leaning forward. "you knew."

"she told me yesterday, yeah."

"and you didn't think inform us about that the second you found out."

"father, with all due respect, that's none of my business to share."

"what he did is an issue, it will ruin our family's reputation."

"i mean he is an adult if we really want to talk about it so much."

billie's snarky comment was rudely interrupted by her father slamming his hand on the table. "what i teach, billie. what i've preaching for years is to be ruined by her brother impregnating some random girl out of wed. so no, he doesn't belong to this family."

"you kicked him out."

"he left on his free will, he'd rather raise that damned child than protect our family."

billie looked at him in disbelief. "you can't be serious, please tell me this a joke."

"billie, he chose the way to end our conversation we had with him, he chose to le—"

billie stood up abruptly and shook her head furiously at the words, not letting her father finish.

she bit her bottom lip to stop the tears threatening to spill out and made her way to her room, ignoring her parents calling for her and finally letting it all out.
