Ignorance is bliss. This is what they say but what if others don't like that momentary bliss as well.

Shanaya was unaware of lots of happenings in her surroundings. After a long week at University, she was finally having a peaceful weekend, or so she assumed. All the three, herself, Panjel and Betty were sipping their tea and having normal chit chat. Their talks turned to their respective boyfriends. Betty had been in a live in relationships with her boyfriend Sean for a year now and that was no secret for other two. So she turned the question to Panjel and Shanaya.

"It's not new thing and I don't mind others having physical relationship before marriage but for myself, I think I would rather wait till marriage. " Panjel said each word carefully.

"What about you Shanaya? " Betty directed the question at her.

"Same as her. " She replied with shrug. She didn't like anyone asking questions about her personal life.

"And here I thought that you went to a trip with your boyfriend from hostel." Betty countered it.

Shanaya threw her head back and laughed. She looked at Panjel and said, "You were living with me at that time right, tell her that I went to my Uncle's house and not with Rudra." Shanaya was confident that she had hid the fact very well and there was nothing to be worried about. So she didn't even pay attention to the cunning smile that Betty threw at her and apologetic smile that Panjel showed her. Call it luck or just a chance, her mobile chose to ring at the same moment.

She picked the call and went to terrace. It was from her parents and the call was not lengthy. She turned around to get back to the room when she saw Panjel waiting for her patiently.

"Can I talk to you for a minute? " Panjel asked politely.

Shanaya didn't know why but she recalled their last confrontation on hostel terrace. This was not good. Definitely not good. Terraces were supposed to be peaceful places with ones having their own comfortable and favorite corners but when Panjel was there with such question, Shanaya needed a place to run and look for a space to hide. Feeling totally anxious, she nodded for Panjel to continue.

"Betty has a habit of snooping into people's personal belongings. She went through Nikayna's personal diary which led to the huge fight in our room and Nikayna had to leave us and you came. But Betty didn't change. She went through your personal belongings as well when you were not around in hostel room." Panjel said softly trying to save the person in front of her as much as possible but seeing Shanaya's white face and her eyes filled with hurt and betrayal, she knew there was nothing she could do. But she had to do this now. Not for anyone else but for Shanaya only.

"Betty saw your trip tickets the day you got them. We all knew where you were going right from the beginning but we three understood why you didn't disclose the news with us. Me, Ana and Paige never judged you for hiding the fact or even going on a trip with your boyfriend. I would never have told you this thing as well but Betty is not like us. She likes to humiliate people and I didn't want you to suffer like Nikayna. You already have suffered a lot. As far as I am concerned, you need not to be worried about me and my opinion. Whatever you say will be truth for me. If you say, you went to your uncle, so be it. I will never bring it up in the future. If you want to say or share something, I will be here but if you want to be alone, I will understand that as well."

Panjel wasn't very attached to Shanaya but she was a good person. She was a practical person, emotionally attached just to her family, her boyfriend and her BFF Ana. Apart from them, she didn't attached herself to anyone. Personally, she didn't even like Betty but she had no choice. But for her, living outside with a known person was far better than living with an unknown person. She was confident in herself that she could put up with Betty. But if she had to live alone with Betty, she would have refused. It was only because Shanaya was ready to move in and also Sean, Betty's boyfriend, had requested to Panjel to stay together, she had agreed. She also knew that one day or another, she will have to open up with Shanaya regarding her real feelings for Betty.

"Can you please leave me alone?" Shanaya said slowly but audible enough for Panjel to hear. She nodded and left. She didn't expect anything less from Shanaya. Afterall her privacy was voided. She had started trusting them and now this had happened.

After Panjel left, Shanaya fell down on floor, unable to keep herself standing for a long time.

Why?  Why again?
She needed someone to talk. She needed Rudra but knowing him, she knew he will blame her again.

But how was it her mistake if someone else had checked her personal belongings?

She clearly remembered that those trip tickets were in her wallet and she had kept it back in cupboard in between her clothes. It was not her habit to hide things but this was something that she couldn't talk openly about. Plus it was her personal life, keeping it low profile or disclosing everything was her choice to make not anyone else to snoop or pry.

She recalled how she had fabricated her story, her fake happiness and their so called genuine smiles and happy-for-you faces, everything now made her feel like a big fool. They had all known it right from the starting when she was bluffing and they had just played along. She also realized that a few days ago her personal diary was peeping out. Her already white face became more white realizing that Betty was behind it. She tried recalling if she had written anything that should not have been there. A small sigh of relief escaped that there was mostly positive points written and there was no mention of Rudra at all. Somewhere inside she knew that personal diary is just in name, people might accidentally or purposefully read it. But that wasn't point at all. How could that b*tch read it and snoop around? This wasn't acceptable.

Her hurt and pain had started taking form of anger and fury.

As if sensing her agony, her phone started ringing. And for the first time, this call and the caller added more to her worry rather than making her happy and relieved.
