Part 33

"I don't believe this!!" Panjel entered the room exasperating.

"What happened?" Shanaya asked her with worried lines on her forehead. She knew Panjel was having a word with Betty's boyfriend.

"Can you believe this? He came last night while we were sleeping to check on Betty. He not only entered our room, but also switched on the lights to see his girlfriend!!"

"What the.... He told you this shit and you didn't say anything. Did you? Where is our privacy and what if he clicked pictures or worse touched anything, how will you know Panjel? Do you understand how serious is this?" Shanaya shrieked. She had never liked these two people at first place and now this. She was right, and now she knew why exactly she didn't feel sad for this so-called Betty's boyfriend.

"You are overthinking, he didn't do anything of that sort. At least hear me out first. He was worried to death. He kept calling her for I don't know how many times. And then when this girl didn't pick the call, he came down only to see our main door unlocked. He got worried so he checked upon us. After that he went to terrace and heard her laughing and talking to a guy. He called her again just to see how she would react, and she simply ignored his call. Then he exposed himself and both of them had a fight. Looks like she indeed cheated on him."

"But that still doesn't give him right to peek on sleeping girls. Was he not aware that there is other two girls who share this room with his precious girlfriend? Whatever you say to defend him, this is not justified." Shanaya didn't hesitate to show her displeasure.

Panjel kept a hand on Shanaya's shoulder and said, "His world is crumbling down in front of his eyes, and he believes he is too late to do anything. How do you expect him to be rational? People in love always do crazy things and get much more irrational when they feel threatened. Do you still disagree? I know it was not right thing to do but you need to understand that it was not intentional Shanaya." She said softly and added further, "I am not saying these things because I consider him as my brother but try to understand a person's behavior. She was his world, and she might have already moved on without any warning."

"It makes sense if you say that way but still, he should not have done that. He has my sympathies but still." Shanaya was already feeling guilty as if it was her mistake that he was cheated on. She just reacted to the fact that her privacy was breached. Even if she agreed that he didn't do it intentionally, but you never know what goes on a boy's mind if he sees a girl sleeping. And that was not the only reason, her previous roommates had pointed it many times that she looks hot when she sleeps. Shanaya wondered about this comment for many times how can someone look hot while sleeping that too she always wore pajamas. No one knows the position in which one person is sleeping in and getting that kind of comment after that... She was clueless. Getting those complements from the roommates was one thing but seen by a guy that too the one she despised. There was no word to describe her feeling right now.

To distract herself she asked Panjel, "With whom she has cheated on? Some guy from her college?"

"Most probably not."

"Then?"

"I don't know. But I think its related to the job interview she attended a few weeks ago."

"Okay."

Betty had told them that they had a campus few weeks ago when an interviewer had proposed her directly. Thinking of it as an interview question, she had answered that question professionally but looks like things changed after that.

"We need to talk to Betty." Panjel suggested.

To be honest, Shanaya didn't want anything to do with Betty and her boyfriend. But since she had started developing a bond with Panjel, she could not refuse right away. So, she just nodded.

Things were going to change drastically. And Shanaya wanted a escape. Her feelings were getting overwhelming, and she knew what exactly she needed. She dialed on her phone,

"Is anything urgent?" Rudra asked on the other side.

"No, but.."

"Then can we talk later; I am in the middle of something." And the call went off.

Shanaya sighed. Okay, no issues. She inhaled and exhaled deeply for sometimes.

In the night, as decided Panjel started a conversation with Betty asking if everything is okay with her boyfriend. Initially Betty lied smoothly but when Panjel told her about last night incidence and her call with her boyfriend, she looked hurt and angry.

"This is why I didn't want to talk about it. But this guy has no sense. Always making a scene. Now tell me, if I am not picking the call or if his call is on waiting, what is the purpose of coming down here. I don't live alone here, you two are also there. Does it look good peeping on sleeping girls for him? As for relationship, I don't know, I can't say anything. But now I can't be with him."

"Are you seeing someone else?" Panjel questioned her directly.

"What the hell? Is it necessary that I have to look for someone else if I have to leave him? I want to concentrate on my career first. I want to achieve something. And this relationship, he is stopping me. He himself is not stable, and the only thing that goes on his mind is marriage and children. Who is going to support us? How will he take care of me? I can't imagine myself being a housewife with a certain number of kids around me.  Every time he talks about his likes, his choices, his life, his dreams. Where do I fit in? What about me, my wishes, my dreams, my choices? For his desire, he raped me many times." And with that she started crying.

"What?" Both Shanaya and Panjel asked at the same time at the shocking revelation.

"You always treated him like your big brother Panjel, so I could never tell this to you and Anaya. But that's the fact. I knew that you guys would never trust me. He is such a sweet talker after all.  My family likes him so much. Whenever I ask something from my mom, she will simply ask me to get from him whether it's money or this laptop or my mobile. She is trusts him so much. Do you think it is easy for me to leave him? But I can't be with him anymore. For him his future is only marriage and kids, but I want a career. Our thinking doesn't match, our dreams are different. Do you still think I am doing wrong?" Betty asked while crying.

By now both Shanaya and Panjel were near her, consoling her.

"Why would I not believe you? How could you think so? If I treated him like my brother, I treated you like my sister too. You should have told us earlier, maybe we could have helped you. And I think you are right." Panjel said with teary eyes, hugging her.

Then Betty looked at Shanaya, "you still think I am wrong. Don't you?"

Shanaya didn't know what to say. Betty could have been worst person she has ever met but rape is something that no woman in the world deserved.

"If whatever you are saying is true, then you should have done it long ago." Shanaya said.

"If only I could." Betty said and started crying all over.

A phone call distracted them all. It was Shanaya's mobile ringing. She left the room and went to terrace to attend the call.

"Hey baby, how are you? Sorry I was in a meeting in the afternoon when you called." Rudra said softly.

"Its okay." Shanaya replied.

"What happened? Are you angry?"

"No."

"Something happened. Tell me."

And Shanaya told him everything right from the last night to the latest disclosure.

Rudra too got furious knowing that someone had checked on them while they were sleeping. He told her strictly to change the room or ask Betty to leave.

"How can I? You know what she has been through. She needs us." Shanaya tried to defend her.

"She is a lying bitch, manipulative to no extent. Shanaya, you might not like what I am going to say next. We went to hotel for a couple of days, we were all alone, now tell me if I did anything that you didn't like, if I had forced myself on you, do you think you would still be talking to me like this, forget about living together and cooking for me."
