Part 9

This day was different than the rest. A couple of Professors and lecturers had missed their period and this was enough to assume that the meeting was going on.

The whole class was unusually silent. They didn't need any lecturer today to ask them to keep quiet. Silent whisperings could be heard.

Somehow Shanaya had a feeling that she could be called any moment now. Her anticipation increased with every passing moment. Yesterday, she was confident on what she would do but now she was getting jitters.

What if they didn't support her?

After all, they were management. University's reputation was the first and most important thing for them and this incident surely would not enhance that.

Her thoughts were halted when an office boy called up on her.

All the eyes were set on her, some pleading, some anxious, some encouraging and some supporting.

When Shanaya entered the board room, she was expecting to see many people but was relieved to see handful. And she relaxed a bit more to see that the person who caused her humiliation was not in sight.

The members present there included her HOD, Jonathon, the Professor in whose presence this had happened, another woman whom she assumed to be a Professor from Computer Science department.

They all were silent the moment she entered. She looked at everyone and made sure to keep her expression serious, not to give a single smile to anyone that she used to give to almost all of them. The HOD nodded and smiled at her, Jonathon and the other woman had a serious face on while her Professor looked at her apologetically.

"Come Shanaya, we were discussing what should be done. You have our sympathies. It should not have happened with anyone here. It is very shameful incident but we promise you that we will take the appropriate action." The HOD said.

"What so you mean by appropriate action? He must be rusticated. This kind of behavior must not be tolerated. One serious action will prevent such behaviors in future. But if you take it lightly, you might have such incidences frequently." Jonathon was furious.

"You can't rusticate him Jonathon. Its about his career and future..." But the other Professor was cut in between.

"That he should have thought before misbehaving." Jonathon spat back at her.

"I agree and understand that he should not have done that. But he is just a young boy. They do such mistakes at this age..." She was again cut in between....

"Are you serious? Are you telling me that just because he is young, he should be forgiven for such activities? Is this what you teach them? Don't forget that you yourself are a woman." Jonathon was very angry at her.

At the moment, Shanaya had deep respect for Jonathon; she could not acknowledge why others loathed him so much but she hated that lady professor very passionately. How could she? But could not say anything since she was neither asked nor talked so far.

As if listening to her inner thoughts, the Professor turned to Shanaya and said,

"Shanaya, I am Miss. Janet, Bret's Computer Science Professor. I am really sorry for what happened to you. It was very unfortunate and I am not saying that he should not be punished. He should be because it is a mistake but rusticating him will spoil his career. I am not supporting him, I have been a very strict teacher to all of them..."

"I understand whatever you are saying but it was me who was humiliated and insulted in front of whole class and I am not going to forget it easily. You have no idea how tormented and invaded I have been feeling. Its easy to say all this but have you ever faced any such thing? If you had, you would not have been here advocating him. And I am really sorry for what I am about to say Miss Janet, but if you really would have been THAT strict, this would not have happened. They would not have left your period to enter another department in between the period and do all this. So do you really think that you are strict or..."
