A U R O R A D E V I E N C E

"Where did you go you fucking shit" Father yelled as I ran as fast as my little legs would let me go. Confused of which part of the sunflower field I was in, I took turn after turn trying to find a way out to my mother.  It was mid November the chill breeze filling up my lungs making it hard to breath but the burning feeling of warmth inches it's way closer and closer to me. Turning around, i'm greeted with the crackling sound of burning sunflowers and the blazing heat of the fire my father started.

"You brought me to a sunflower field" I say peeling my eyes off of the yellow field over to Ace who was looking down at me with a bland expression. Per usual.

"Yes I did because we're having a picnic" he says making his way to the trunk and pulling out a basket. I just look up at him with a smile. Awh maybe he does have a heart. Reading his face he looked like he was holding back more excitement than I was.

Grabbing his arm, I pulled him closer to the field with a smile spread across my face but my heart aching at the forbidden memory. "That ones so tall compared to the rest" I point out looking up at the flowers. "And that ones small just like you" he points to one that barely reaches his knee. I glare up at him nudging his stomach.

"I hate you" I mutter looking up to see the rest of the sunflowers. "We both know that's not true"

"If I was allowed to, I would of killed you when you asked for a dance" I say recalling the memory from the ball over a month ago and looking back over at him.

"Mhm really? Cause I remember you look like you were gonna melt at my presence that night."

Shit did I actually make it that noticeable that night? I don't even say anything back and stick my middle finger up at him moving farther into the middle of the path between the rows of flowers. I stopped a few times to take in my surrounding and each time his abs found its way to be pressed against my back. Not that i'm complaining.

"Ooo look at the birdies" I say smiling looking at the nest of a Mama bluejay with her children, or it could of been the dad. How do birds even get pregnant?

"You act like you're a kid in a candy shop" Ace mutters behind me coming close behind me filling the gap between my back and his front once again.

"And you act like a grown man going through his midlife crisis and a divorce at the same time."

He scoffs at my remark before opening the basket to spread out the baby blue linen sheet and pulling out the rest of the stuff in it. Strawberries, champagne, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and kool-aid. I knew Caroline was in on this as soon as I saw my juice.

"I'm gonna guess Jordan and Caroline packed this for you didn't they" I ask sitting down across from him. "Why would she pack a juice box?" He questions staring at it. "She knows I don't drink" I say taking the pouch from his hand and sticking the straw through.

"Only you Aura" he mumbles as I look up at him with the new nickname.

"Did you just call me Aura?"

"Mhm" he mutters taking a strawberry and laying down. "Im gonna call you tree" I reply bringing my gaze from the tree behind him to his beautifully sculpted figure. Wonder how long god took his time on him.

"Pick another name" he muttered with his eyebrows furrowed. "Either tree or i'm calling you Ace Alexander Oscar Jr. The Third"
