Third Person PoV

He logs on to his computer after just waking up.

He was about to open his favorite game to play with his friends but he sees a little red circle above his email app.

He clicks on the Email and begins to read the message to himself.

Email:
 Dear ████,

You have been invited to enter into ███████████ contest. This competition has only been sent out to a select few individuals with extreme skill. Please respond to this with a yes/no to enter or decline by ████.

Sincerely,
███ ███████

He ponders this.

It sounds fun to him so why not?

He opens an attached link with the code and reads through it before accepting any weird email.

A bit was out of his skill in the coding language.

He can tell that it is normal and grows bored of reading it.

One lone line at the bottom of the code list catches his eye though.

He tried to translate it to ‘player possession; player 3 and 5’.

He had no idea what that meant.

He brought the code to one of his coding programs and changed it to ‘false’ assuming it was a coding error.

He reuploads the new code hoping he wouldn’t get in trouble for tampering with the code but that just sounded weird to him.

She watched from the other side of the glass window that looked into the RG room.

Her blond hair was messy from lack of care.

Dark bags were under her eyes from being sleep deprived.

The room she was looking into had dim lights to help keep the people in the hospital beds asleep.

Head mounts were positioned over their eyes and ears to keep them locked in the game.

IV’s and other mechanical technologies were hooked up to them to keep them healthy while being bedridden.

TV monitors were hung on the wall behind them, showing each of the subjects' perspective.

And it was all controlled by a computer program that went rogue.

The AI called ‘The Entity’ had the facility on complete lockdown.

No one was allowed in or out.

It trapped everyone in the facility, completely taking over the building.

It protected the RG room the most and it has been this way for about a month.

There were people on the outside trying to help like the police trying to get in, but the young adults were still in too much danger for them to enter.

The room was being monitored at all times by The Entity.

There was no way to get into the room that housed five young adults.

The AI threatened to kill the trapped subjects in the room if they tried to free them or enter the room.

She watched the monitors as the players moved through the game.

The program had created another to assist it in the software to guide the players.

A man dressed in a brown suit that was old and wrinkled walked up next to the woman with his hands behind his back.

His hair was oily and rugged like everyone else in the facility.

He ran the whole operation of the Real Gaming organization.

“How have they been doing?” He asked the woman softly while watching the monitors.

“They are doing okay. They look stable.” She answered him.

“Good.” He simply said.

There was a moment of silence.

“I wish we never got them involved. They are innocent. They don’t deserve this.” She turned away from the window so she couldn’t see the people who were trapped in a video game.

“Cut yourself some slack. We had no idea this would happen. I agree we shouldn’t have used these kids and tested it more but you can’t change the past. We are here now.” He put a hand on her shoulder reassuringly.

“Yes, but it is our fault those young men and women are stuck in there and us in here. We created that… thing.” She was trying to control her emotions but she felt awful for what happened to the players and blamed herself.

“It’s alright, we will save them and shut down The Entity for good.” He said in his British accent.

He puts a hand on her shoulder before walking away.

The subjects were hand picked from a group of talented players from the game The RG organization was trying to recreate.

Now that The Entity had the players tricked and following a direct path, it would breach the last firewall that was set.

There was a firewall that was placed to keep The Entity from fully taking over the game but the problem was, the firewall was in the game.

It was in the shape of the final boss the players had to defeat in the End.

Now that the players were convinced that they had to kill the boss in order to escape the world that The Entity put them in.

The Entity was using them.

She puts her hand up to the glass.

“I’m incredibly sorry. This never should have happened to you.” She says as if they could hear her.
