Chapter 14: Octavia
"Bell?" I shake my unconscious brother awake.
"W-what happened?" he asks, shaking his head.
"You tell me." I run my fingers across the red mark curled around his neck.
"Zak. It was Zak." He shoots up and looks around the room.
A scream outside confirms my thoughts. "I'll be right back."
I run outside the drop ship to find Zak with a knife against a girl's throat. Everyone's gathered around them, watching intently.
"Help!" the girl shouts; the voice sounds familiar, too familiar.
Raven.
I want to help her, but my mind plays back what she did to Bellamy, and she can't get away with that. But looking at her trapped in Zak's grasp reminds me that we should still be friends.
"Please!" she pleads once more.
Without thinking, I dash towards her and try and grab the knife from Zak's hand. Instead of my plan going right, the knife slashes my hand and I fall backwards.
"Why'd you do that?" I ask.
"Don't even try to rescue your precious Raven, she's as good as dead," he spits, and his knife plunges into Raven's upper thigh. She howls in pain and slumps over, Zak pulling her up after. "You see that?" His eyes are full of craze. "Any closer and I hit an artery, wouldn't want that, would you?"
"Oi, fucker," Bellamy calls from behind him.
Zak turns around to face him with a smirk on his face. "You called?"
Bellamy grabs the knife from Raven's thigh and poises it at Zak's face. "Don't touch her."
Zak pulls his hand up and pushes the knife away. "Come on, Bellamy. I know she broke your heart, too."
"You know nothing."
He shoves Raven away and she falls into Bellamy's arms. "Fine, have your trash, but let me just tell you one thing."
"It better be important."
"Us grounders will stop at nothing to get what we want, so keep an eye on your camp before more people suffer or get taken like Clarke was."
Zak's words hit me like a knife in the chest. People murmur unintelligible words but I'm pretty sure everyone's thinking the same thing.
"Clarke was taken by the grounders?" I ask for everyone.
"And you knew?" Bellamy adds.
"Of course; my tribe wanted revenge on the Sky People and I haven't seen Clarke around camp within these few hours."
The murmurs get louder and louder by the second.
"Can't we get her back?" one shouts.
"I say we infiltrate their camp!" says another.
"Yeah!"
People start shouting and I feel a certain someone's presence to the left of me.
"O, can I talk to you for a minute?" Jasper asks.
I sigh and turn to face him. His soft, brown eyes are pleading.
"Sure," I answer and he unexpectedly grabs my hand. I stiffen up a little at the unusual feel of it but it kind of feels nice...
Jasper leads me to the outskirts of camp, behind the drop ship.
"Look," he begins. "What we did last night - why?"
"Why? I don't know, Jas. I still care about you."
"So it was real?"
"What was real?"
"You didn't do it just because?"
"Of course not." I slide my hand up to his shoulder.
He moves closer to me so we're only centimetres apart. "Prove it to me."
My lips crash onto his in response. I can feel him smiling through our kiss and I smile back before he breaks away. His fingers brush against my cheek.
"I want to say something." His smile shrinks a little. "But I don't know if it'll ruin the moment."
"Just say it."
He leans towards my ear so his lips are almost touching me. "I love you."
My breath catches in my throat. "I-I love you, too."
He sighs with relief. "That's good, then, or else I would have fucked up bad."
I laugh, a real laugh for once. "Come with me."
He takes my hand. "Where?"
"To repeat last night, duh!"

I lie awake in Jasper's bed, my chest heaving up and down, my head resting on Jasper's stomach.
"Whoa," he says. "That was even better than last night."
"Thanks." I have no idea what else to say, I just want to lie here and never get up.
"Nothing to say, huh?" He brings his hand to my hair and strokes it.
"Nope. I would much rather listen to you."
"That's a shame because looking at you takes the words right out of my mouth."
"Sweet but cheesy, I like it." I roll over and ruffle his messy hair. His award-winning smile shines bright on his slighty sweaty face.
"It's the only one I have."
I reach up to kiss him softly. "It's the only one I need."
"That's pretty convenient."
There's a pause before one of us speaks again. "You know, I never expected this to happen with us."
"Why's that?"
"We're so different, and we'd never met before we came to Earth. I just didn't expect us to be together."
"And you're always with Lincoln?"
I scowl. "Possibly that, too. Please don't rain on this parade."
"I'm not trying to, I was just adding to the conversation."
"Okay, but just don't mention Lincoln right now. We can worry about him later."
"Just us for now?"
"Just us."
