Chapter 8: Bellamy
I'm barely awake when Clarke storms into my room at around eleven o'clock.
"Follow me, it's important," she says before running out of my room and out the door.
I get up and grab a shirt, pulling it over my head. When I get out the door I see Raven and Octavia talking in hushed voices. Raven points to the drop ship where I see a couple of silhouettes of people inside, probably Clarke and Finn. I walk over to Raven and O.
"What's going on?" I ask.
"Not sure," Octavia replies. "Clarke said we needed to follow her but we don't know where she's gone."
"I would probably say the drop ship."
"With Zak in there?"
"I guess."
"Let's check it out, then," Raven suggests. "If she wants our help then she can have it."
"Come with me, then," I say and begin walking to the entrance of the drop ship. Inside, I can hear muttering and behind me I hear quiet talking from the girls.
Confidently, I open one of the doors along the corridor and find Zak awake and Clarke seething in anger while Finn stands there watching, probably thinking.
"Zak!" Raven exclaims happily, running towards him. "What's going on?"
Clarke jumps in. "Yeah Zak, why don't you tell them what's going on?" she sneers.
"What do you mean?" Raven asks, turning to Zak.
He sighs slowly, clearly attempting to delay the feed of information most of us are expecting. "Our... tribe... are descendants of the grounders you knew, like Lincoln."
It takes a moment for me, Raven and Octavia to process the information.
No one wants to speak up apart from Raven, of course. She seems to be getting a little attached to Zak - too bad he won't be around for long.
"So you know Lincoln?" she asks.
"Well, duh. He's my uncle," he says like it's obvious to her.
"How did you even know he was here?" Octavia interjects.
"When Beth went to kill Malcolm she saw him; she normally feeds back to us what she sees."
"Wait..." I say. "Who's Beth?"
"Your worst nightmare, trust me."
"I honestly doubt that."
"Never doubt us grounders. You'll end up making an error and I guarrantee you'll pay."
Clarke coughs awkwardly. "Okay, then. I'm going to sleep," she says, taking Finn's hand and going out the door.
Finn, who hasn't said anything since we've arrived, follows obediently. "Goodnight, guys," is all he says.
"We should be going, too," Octavia says.
"I'm just gonna stay a bit longer." Raven turns around to face Zak and I place a hand on her waist to pull her back. She wriggles out of my grasp, which is strange.
"What?" she asks.
"... Nothing. Don't worry. I'm just gonna tie him up in case he tries to escape."
She doesn't stop me as I find a couple of ropes and tightly tie Zak back to the chair. He winces with each movement; I must have hurt him pretty bad. Of course you did, Bell. You fucking stabbed him.
"I'm giving you five minutes," I say, walking out of the doorway.
Raven turns to face me, a shocked expression covering her features. "You don't own me, Bellamy."
"I just want you to be safe," I half-lie. I just generally don't want her near Zak.
"I will be."
I pass through the door and stand outside in the cold for a few seconds before an idea pops into my head.
On the side of the drop ship is hole from a couple of years ago - it appeared when we were testing out new weapons and a heavy rock crashed into the drop ship, leaving a deep dent and a small hole to peek through. Now, if only the hole was directly in front of Raven and Zak...
It's worth looking.
I quietly tiptoe/run to the dent and close one eye, looking through the other. I feel like the luckiest person on Earth when I am in fact looking at Raven and Zak, but I also feel uneasy.
Zak is smiling cheekily at Raven, a look in his eye I don't like for some reason. He must have said something funny because Raven laughs out loud, a real heartfelt laugh. She grabs a chair from the side of the room and sits down on it, facing him. Their eyes focus on each other for a moment and then Raven starts talking. He concentrates on the words coming out of her mouth. But not just the words.
Her lips. He's staring at them.
She stops talking and leans towards him. No. She wouldn't, would she? She is. She lightly pecks his lips, and he kisses her back. They continue to kiss and that's when my vision begins to blur with the distortion of tears pooling in my eyes.
I swivel around on my feet and walk quickly away, trying desperately to blink back tears. They roll down my cheeks in a fast stream that doesn't want to stop; that can't stop.
I crash through the door of my house, slamming it shut and falling onto my bed in a sobbing mess, a rare sight for me.
