Chapter 17: Finn

"Any information on their camp?" I ask Abby for the third time this morning. My hair is a mess and my clothes are mismatched, but all for a good cause: finding Clarke; I got up extra early for it.

"Yes, actually," she answers, a smile on her face. Something inside me lights up. "I traced through some of the camera footage that was from the cameras further out in the forest and found an entrance that people - I think grounders - were using to get in."

"That's great!" I exclaim.

"Not really. It would take a day's trek to get there."

"Then a day's trek it is."

"Finn, I understand how much you love Clarke, but the journey is dangerous. We don't know the grounders' plans."

"If you understand how much I love Clarke then you'll be fine with letting me go."

"Just one more thing -"

"What is it?"

"Their camp is underground. I can give you directions to it, though."

"Perfect." I'm impatient to get going. "I'll grab a few others and we'll be off."

"Be careful."

"Are we there yet?" Octavia asks.

"We're only halfway, the same as the last time you asked five minutes ago," I say, looking at the directions written on a poorly-drawn map.

"Do you know what the entrance looks like?" Bellamy adds.

"Dr. Griffin said it was like a sealed trapdoor."

A couple of hours pass without any talking, just silence. I take in the scene around me, the taller, undisturbed trees, the denser layer of leaves on the ground. All the stuff Clarke loves. I remember watching her elated face when we first arrived here five years ago: her wide smile, bright eyes and the sun radiant on her soft cheeks. I choke back the tears, but I don't know if they're because I'm happy about seeing her again or because I'm sad about missing her.

"Is that it there?" Raven points to a rusted metal door.

I glance at the map once more and look back at the door. "Should be. Who wants to open it?"

"Me," Raven says. "I found it." I roll my eyes so hard that I feel light-headed.

She puts both hands on the handle and pulls. The door gives while a prolonging shriek that hurts my ears.

"See?" She takes a step inside. "Perfectly." She steps forward once more. "Sa -"

Several hundred tiny spindles of metal are released and puncture Raven's skin. Distant shouts come towards us - it must be the grounders.

"Raven, run!" I shout. I run forward to try and grab her. She turns around and I can see even more have dotted themselves around her face. The blood leaks out of her in tiny trickles. I try to find a place where there isn't any metal; there are a few clean patches on her back and legs.

"Sky People!" a grounder girl shouts, immediately being followed by a couple of others. I run over to Raven, getting closer to the scene. In the corner of my vision I notice something, something I recognise. I take my focus off Raven for a moment to look at it closer, and realise what it is.

A wisp of Clarke's hair.

"Finn, what are you doing?" Bellamy asks, panicked. "Don't get distracted, I'll get Raven if you attack the grounders."
