Chapter 26: Clarke

"Bellamy!" I shout out of the drop ship.

He soon comes running into view. "Yeah?" he asks.

"Come inside," I say, taking him to Octavia.

"Great," Octavia says sarcastically. "Another person I shouldn't have to see."

"What do you mean?" Bell asks.

"She thinks she should die because she killed Lincoln," I whisper to him. "I think it's because she's had a knock to the head, but we're doing everything we can to convince her she hasn't."

""We"?" he questions angrily. "Who's "we"?"

"Me and Raven," I say.

"And where's Raven now?"

"Behind you."

He turns to look at Raven and so do I. She gets up as quickly as she can mange and hugs Bellamy tight. He stands there for a moment before hugging her in return. The lines of worry vanish from his face and he smiles.

I hear a thump and a cry of pain behind me. I swivel around to see Octavia on the floor clutching her knee.

"What are you doing?" I ask her.

"I was trying to run." She grits her teeth. "But I guess I can't."

"You're my Crutch Buddy," Raven says, helping her up.

"I don't want to be your Crutch Buddy," she complains. "Hey, where's Jasper?"

"I can get him," I say. Maybe Jas will talk some sense into her.

I call Jasper over. He looks as white as a sheet, and his eyes dart to Octavia. I explain to him briefly what's going on.

"Octavia?" he says.

She looks at him blankly. "Oh, my God," she whispers.

"What?" Jasper asks. "What is it?"

"You disgust me," she snarls. "You kissed me, and then you forced me to break up with Lincoln. And now he's dead. He told me to leave him, because he thought I didn't care about him, but I did; I still do."

Jasper's mouth is wide open. "What do you mean?" he asks. "You're the one who decided to break up with him."

"Yeah, under your influence."

"I really don't see where you're going with this."

"Just forget it." She grabs Raven's crutches and hops out of the drop ship as best as she can.

Raven stands there, dumbfounded. "Am I the only one thinking that we should go and get her?" she says.

I walk into our house to see Finn with Harper; I've missed seeing them.

"Hey, guys," I say.

"Mommy!" Harper squeals, getting up from her chair.

"Hey, Harps." I hug her tight and Finn gets up, too.

"How's Octavia?" he whispers, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"It's a long story," I say. "I'll tell you later."

He nods and kisses my cheek.

"I'm going to talk to my mom," I tell them. "She'll be glad I'm back."

"I'm coming with you," Finn says.

"Me, too," Harper adds.

We walk together into the tent with the radio and I sit down on the chair.

"Mom?" I say.

It takes a few seconds to get a response. "Clarke? Is that you?" she asks.

"Mom!" I exclaim. "Ugh, I wish I could hug you."

"You'll be able to soon," she says, her smile beaming.

"What do you mean?" Finn asks.

"Clarke, can I speak to you alone?"

"No," I say. "If you want to say something, you can say it in front of all of us."

"Fine." Her smile droops slightly. "We're bring the Ark down to the ground."

My face lights up. "You are?"

"We're launching it in a couple of days, but..."

"But what?"

"The Chancellor predicted that, because some parts are older than others, not everyone will make it."

"Please, Mom, you have to get on one of the newer parts."

"I'll see you soon, Clarke." She smiles and switches the radio-video off from her end.

"Mom!"

I turn to Finn and Harper; their faces are full of shock.

"She cannot just drop a bomb on us like that," Finn says.

"Is everyone gonna be on Earth?" Harper asks.

"Almost everyone," I say.

I feel Finn's arms snake around my waist from behind. "I missed you," he says.

"I missed you, too. And I missed having a shower."

"Go and have one, then."

"I'll be back in a minute." I kiss him quickly and go outside to the shower blocks, which are basically just wooden shacks with buckets of water.

I get undressed and tip the water over me, which is now freezing cold. It runs over the cuts of Beth's sword, making some of them bleed. I run my finger along my cheek, the part that the fog got to. I think it's almost healed now, but it'll leave a a nasty scar. My arm doesn't look too bad, either.

I tip the last of the water over my head and pull my clothes back on, running back into our house.

"You were quick," Finn says.

"It was cold," I tell him, still shivering slightly. "I'm gonna get changed into something that doesn't have my blood on it."

He laughs. "Okay, I'll see you in the bedroom."

I give him a weird look.

"Oh, God, not in that way... Unless you want to."

"I'd rather get a good nights sleep tonight," I say.

"Okay, see you in a bit."

I quickly change into something more comfortable; one of Finn's t-shirts.

I collapse on the bed and feel something crumple underneath me. Getting back up, I realise it's a bit of folded paper. I unwrap it slowly, and read the message inside.

Thank you
-Beth

I never expected another word from Beth, let alone a thank you; didn't they go in the opposite direction to us?

"Everything okay?" Finn asks from behind me.

"Look at this." I hand him the note and watch him read it.

A look of confusion crosses his face. "Why would she thank you?" he asks, coming to lie down on the bed with me.

"I let them go when Bellamy was going to kill them, Finn."

"You what?" he whispers angrily in case Harper comes in. "Are you forgetting what they did to you? I'd kill them all if it was me."

"They're just kids!"

"Yeah, kids with sick minds." He turns over, facing away from me.

I wrap my arms around him. "I did what I had to do," I say. "Even if it didn't seem like it."
