"Okay, that's five hundred potatoes down," Flora sighed as we all stood in the kitchen, helping Bloom with a potion.
"That makes five hundred more to go," I groaned, dreading the thought of the remaining work. Honestly, all I wanted to do was go to bed. And where was Stella? Probably off busy with more 'important' things.
"You know, I'll feel like a total dork if this doesn't work," Bloom said sheepishly, scratching the back of her neck, her uncertainty showing.
"Well, where did you find the formula?" Musa asked, her curiosity piqued, and I couldn't help but feel the same. It seemed like an odd recipe.
"It was in the new fairies' self-improvement guide," Bloom said with a hopeful grin. "So it should work. A thousand potatoes, a bushel of flipweed, and a magic backflip, and you'll be making good decisions the next day. It says good judgment is guaranteed."
Bloom floated up with a flick of her magic, and without hesitation, she performed a backflip, landing gracefully back on the ground. I smiled in amusement at her delight in trying out her newfound powers.
Suddenly, the doors burst open with a bang, and Chef Sfoglia stormed in, looking very much like someone who wasn't happy about us using his kitchen without permission.
"I thought I heard itty bitty voices," he muttered in his thick Spanish accent, his gaze sweeping over the room. "What are you girls doing in my kitchen?"
"We're working on a potion for class, sir," I answered politely, though I noticed the girls shoot me surprised looks for my overly polite response. I shot them a glare, reminding them to mind their manners.
Chef Sfoglia glanced around at the mess we'd made and frowned. "Look at this place! It's a mess!"
"The potion lab wasn't available," Tecna pointed out, though I wasn't sure that made things better.
"Relax, maestro, have a spud," Musa said with a smirk, making me laugh in spite of the situation.
"My spiro potatoes!" Chef Sfoglia exclaimed, his eyes widening in horror. "You're using my babies!" He gestured dramatically toward the potatoes. "And what's this all about?" he added, pointing to the omelets sizzling on the stove.
"That's dinner," Flora stated matter-of-factly, her smile innocent and warm, as if the chef wasn't even mad at us.
"We got hungry," Bloom added, her tone casual, but I just deadpanned, not sure if that excuse would do.
Chef Sfoglia looked at the omelets with a look of pure disgust. "That's not how to cook!" he blurted.
"It can't be that hard," Musa rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed by his dramatic reaction.
