I exhaled deeply as I finally reached the summit, the wind brushing past my face and through my hair as I tried to catch my breath. My legs felt like jelly from the climb, and the mountain seemed to mock me with how effortlessly the wind whipped around it.
Climbing a mountain was no easy feat.
Why am I climbing a mountain, you ask? Well, it's spring break, and I'd planned to spend it curled up in bed, avoiding everything. But Stella had gone to the Solaria palace, and I was left behind. Not that I minded.
Then Ghidorah, my ever-enigmatic dragon mentor, appeared to me in a dream. She said someone on top of this mountain could help me. After what happened with the Witches—when I nearly lost control of my magic during the fight—Ghidorah told me I couldn't afford to let that happen again. If I wanted to harness the power of the Dragon, I needed to train, to learn control.
So, here I was.
At the top of the mountain stood a Japanese-style house, humble and peaceful in its appearance. An elderly woman sat on the porch, her posture perfect, her eyes closed as though meditating. The moment I stepped onto the clearing, her eyes snapped open, fixing me with an intense glare that made me take an involuntary step back.
"Who are you?" she demanded, her gaze sharp as a blade, like she could see right through me.
I swallowed, forcing myself to stay calm under her piercing stare. "I'm [Name]..." My voice wavered just a little. "The water dragon Ghidorah sent me here."
Before I could even blink, I was shoved to the ground. The impact jolted through me, and a groan escaped my lips as I felt bruises already forming on my skin. I cursed Ghidorah silently in my head—this was what he had sent me to?
The woman stood over me, her eyes cold. "If you can't stand against something as simple as that, then there's no way you can control the power of the Dragon," she snapped.
I shot a glare up at her, already burning with frustration. "Train me to get stronger," I said, my voice firm despite the aching from the fall. I refused to be weak any longer. "Teach me the way of the Dragon."
The old woman hesitated for a split second, an almost imperceptible surprise flashing across her features. But it was gone just as quickly as it appeared, and she straightened up, her expression unreadable.
"Very well then," she said, though her voice still held a touch of reluctance. "The name's Getsumei," she continued, eyeing me with a mixture of curiosity and skepticism. "I must warn you though, my training sessions won't be a walk in the park. Be prepared for pain."
"I won't falter," I replied, my eyes hardening with determination. I didn't care how tough it would be. I wasn't leaving until I got the control I needed.
