Strength of a Mother

Female human/male Orc

I have been running for four days I needed to get away from the demon known as my husband. How could he do this? It was dark now, and I had to find a place to stay for the night. Before I could look for a cave or an inn, a huge hulking male Orc grabbed me behind him was a female Orc.

"What are you doing in our territory? Come with us. The chief will want to see you!" he grunted.

I tried to protest, but they weren't listening. The female Orc had grabbed my bags and was carrying them with ease. I told her to be careful and tried to grab my precious one; she grumbled and carried them in both arms.

When we arrived at the Stronghold, angry-looking Orc surrounded us, including the Chief he was magnificent to look at. Long braided red hair, clean-shaven, bulky arms and legs, green skin, scattered scars, two tusks capped with gold caps, and his armour similar to obsidian, a stunning symbol of an Orc.

"Human, what are you doing in our territory so late?" he asked, his deep voice booming around the area.

"I did not know this was your territory. If I would have known I would have asked permission to enter. I am running from my... don't drop that bag!" I yelled, breaking free.

I ran to my bag, grabbing it from the female Orc, placing it on the floor. I opened it, revealing my very ill daughter. Holding her close to me, I stood up, seeing a sea of shocked faces and lowering swords. I walked towards the Orc, who was once holding me.

"I am running from my husband, who tried to drown our daughter. He tried to kill her because she was a girl and not a boy. I struggled away from the two men holding me, grabbed my daughter and ran," I explained.

The chief walked towards me, looking at my little girl who was very pale and burning up. He placed a hand on her forehead and called for the healer. Immediately she looked at my daughter, ordering me to follow her. When we got to her hut, she put her on the bed, letting the healer take charge of healing her.

"Healer Palla is the best; she will get your little one right in no time. What is her name?" he asked.

"Angela, she is three years old," I answered "I would have asked permission to cross your territory. I... we have been running for four days now and not really been resting," I explained. I also gave him my name.

"You are very brave. You are welcome to stay here. We can find you work. We need farmhands and there are rooms in the tavern," he explained.

"Thank you chief, I'm sorry I don't know your name," I winced

"Haldaz"

"Thank you, chief Haldaz. Are you sure we won't be in the way? I will earn our keep," I told him.

"I am sure you will. I recommend you stay with your little one. Take a day or two to rest and be with your daughter." he smiled.

"Thank you, and I am not brave. If I was brave, I would have beaten or killed my husband, not run away like a coward," I said, sitting on the bed next to Angela.

"Nonsense! Sometimes the best thing to do is to run away!" he exclaimed.

I jumped at that and looked at my daughter. Palla told me my daughter had pneumonia and it was treatable. I sighed in relief, nearly falling off the bed.

"When was the last time you ate?" Haldaz asked.

"A week ago, my husband didn't allow me to have over six meals a week. He said woman should be skinny, not plushy"
